Route Menu > More Options... > Segments Tab > Prefered (sp?) Road Type...

Turn the toll road slider all the way down

Unfortunately, if you are looking for a more permanent way to turn off toll roads within S&T 05, there isn't any. The above procedure needs to be performed every time you plan a new trip.

Setup the preferred roads the way you want them, then save it as a map file.
Modify your shortcut to load that file every time you launch S&T and your route preferences will be the way you want.

Unfortunately "Preferred Road Types" will be grayed out, and you will have no access to it, unless you plot a route. As far as I know there is no way to save "Preferred Road Types" settings for future use.

But many other settings are savable the way you are suggesting.

My bad...
I forgot a crucial step...
Make a starting point... For example, I have a file that loads with my home as the starting point....

Unfortunately that is still a no go :-( There would have to be a minimum of two addresses entered in Route Planner for the "Preferred Road Types" settings to be accessible. Then you could indeed change & save those settings, but it would be still useless since those settings would reset to their default position every time you plot a new route.

But perhaps this could be a useful feature improvement worth adding to a wish list ;-)

What about home -> home, using the same address?

Slimline, I just tried it, and it does in fact appear to work ;-) I actually noticed that when I later change my route to something that doesn't include the Home-to-Home part, the "Preferred Road Types" settings do retain my previously set preferences. I will still try it a few more times later when I find some time for this, because I recall the settings used to go back to their default "middle" whenever you plotted a new route. Perhaps S&T 05 improved this a bit over previous versions ;-)
