Is it possible to emulate mobile phone gps software? that way no 100% cpu use.

Not used them so not tested but is it possible to port over mobile phone gps to a pc? thereby getting round the 100% cpu issue experienced on the tomtom emulation.

either windows mobile or symbian versions

lots available inc route 66 or tomtom mobile 5 or Navicore (recently released over here and very successful in other countries from press releases.)

they work with normal gps mouses so must be a way to emulate.

i dont think it would be possible... if possible navigation is likely to be crappy (navigation within the gui), the "screen" area will be small, overall I think it wouldnt work out or be of any use...

From reviews the TomTom Mobile 5 is exactly like TomTom GO which is very highly regarded so can`t the gui issues be looked into?

And the maps should be able to enlarge to fit the screen a la Destinator.

Im installing tomtom mobile 5 on my nokia 7610 tonight so can see what its like

Found a symbian free to use emulator (full version only need to license if commercial)

Will try to run the program in the emulator but not bought a gps yet, and dunno how to connect it either!!

Please tell us how it works in-car instead of trying to disprove my comments... Still, I dont think the reso even of the S80s can get to 800x600 or even higher res we might be using in-car.

Although I would really like a better solution, I thik that the closest possibility would be an SDK that works in windows a la Crapinator

Also, one caveat, afair emulators are extremely inneficient in code-handling (in most cases, at least) and so CPU usage might be high. Id look at this more as a way to get better oftware than as a way to run it on more feable machines.

the guys running TomTom PPC/WM2005 on PC's are only getting 320x240 screen res. and that looks ok.

Maybe the mobile emulators are better than the PPC/WM2005 emulators, who knows...? testing required me thinks.

IIRC Sama was the one leading the way in the PPC trials
