I love Copilot

I cant speak for the hardware - I Just bought Live Laptop 8 - software only.

I have tried close to everything under the sun.... Sony / Etak Skymap (one of the first) Streets n' trips, Delorme Street Atlas.... They ALL pale in comparison to Copilot.

Now I will grant that for some people, they may prefer some of the details of map data in other apps... but for Driving from A to B with turn by turn directions, on screen keyboard, and easy to use address book - It just feels like Factory NAV... There is no better explination.

I've been using GPS since the early days of my project, and I was NEVER satisfied with my GPS hardware. I think hardware has come a long way. a lot of cheap stuff gets good lock times. I use a GARMIN GPS-16. This thing locks in seconds.

I have no affiliation with Garmin, or Copilot , but I just thought I would put this out there for any one considering software - hell, with the trade in program, it only costs 100 bucks...

I have to agree with gizmomkr on CoPilot. - I just got it two weeks ago. I have some problems with CoPilot taking you on the shortest route but not always the fastest route. The Best Solution I have found was to hit the Detour Button (Really Should be renamed to "Alt Route") and wait five minutes and then Cancel Detour. Overall I let it guide me on a little 150 Mile Roundtrip and it did indeed get me to the end location. I have a few things I would like to see modified/tweaked but I would agree it is the best software I have tested so far. This is as close to an OEM version that I have found.

Here are a few things that I have found...
+Auto-magical re-routing when you get off corse works like a champ (After the first 500 Meters of it telling you to turn it around)
-Missing Road (No way to get Updates until the next relase comes out)
-I believe that routes are on the shortest route and not taking into account for fastest roads.
-Took me thru a Gravel Road to get me to a destination (When Paved Roads were avialable)
-Lookup of addresses/city could be improved.

iGuidance - I've seen iGuidance in your sig and I haven't taken the time to look it over. So this morning I downloaded it and right off the bat a hard coded Mapping to C:\Prog Files\iGuide (Sorry at work and don't remember off hand) isn't so cool. Will play with it this weekend.

Yes, the "Lookup of addresses/city" issue is something I don't like about CoPilot either. And the maps and routes in my area are inferior to iGuidance.

Try iGuidance and you may be pleasantly surprised ;-)

Okay.. not to hi-jack this thread but how does IGuide fit the program into 400k? (ish I don't remember the size from this morning)

I guess...

Maps? (Location/Type)
3d View?
Turn-By-Turn Voice?

Sorry I haven't do too much reading up on it.

The newest version of iGuidance 2.1.1 may actually need close to 2.3 GB of your hard disk drive space if you wish to install it all. But if space is at premium you may just install the maps for US states / Canadian provinces that you need. Check this link for map size information: http://www.inavcorp.com/products/iguidance21_map.html

I got iGuidance with my GPS annt and never tried it. However, I believe it was more like a trial since it came on a 3 inch cd. I live in the U.S. so for those of you in the states, what really is better? iG or CP?

i've been using iguidance and it's great, much better than delorme. Iguid has 3d view voice turn navi, zoom in when turn, on screen keyboard, dif color themes decent POI and 4 route options(shortest, quickest, major, local) and also other stuff. I really want to try co-pilot and see how that fares.

i love iguidance!

i have only used iguidance and really really like it, takes me exactly where I want to go as long as i put the correct address in and excellent re-routing if I take a wrong turn and voice guidance. The font size is still a issue, havent used igskinner yet, so that will fix that for me.

The only think i dont really like is the way address is entered, takes a few tries before i can find what i am looking for, also the way the Favorites are stored, need more customization...other than those 2 things it perfect.

iGSkinner won't fix your font size issue, but it will fix your button size issue.

If you're referring to the size of the font for street names on the screen then that is an easy fix.

Open Notepad.
Input the following:
Code:
;street name font size in points @ zoom level STS=15 20 20 20 20 20 20 20 20 20 20

Save the file in the iG directory as theme.ini (Be sure you change the type from Text File to All files so it does not get saved as theme.ini.txt)

IGuidance all the way. Being in Canada they also have updated the maps. You can configure the size of street names etc with an ini file.

Right now it is the most current map wise, easiest to use, and the most accurate.

My only peeve is the POI's.

my friend has a RX330 and God does the nav kick *** . I hope the POI database for IG is as good

is it better on Copilot ?

Does anybody have any screenshots of the PC version of IG? I only see the PPC shots on their website.
