GPS mileage calculation

Are there any utilities out there that can track how many miles you are driving for any given amount of time
having an older model vehicle ive always wanted to have a "42 miles to empty" gague on my dash via lcd or even onscreen
i would simply just press a reset button when filling up at the pump and calculate away for example i have a 32 gallon tank and if i was anal about it i suppose i could always key in how many gallons i put in in between fill ups but generally i dont let my tank get too low but i think it would be cool

anyone know of a utility that can do this with somewhat of a decent accuracy.

" I mean hey if CA is gonna get taxes on this <mileage on highways> im sure there has to be some sort of program that can figure it out"

dude, dont take it the wrong way but i dont realy think it would work that well, you wont get the same MPG all the time so it wont be acurate, if you were to do this you could use the fuel gage and a IO card, read how much fuel there is from the gage and then give a rough miles left using pre programmed mpg based on your speed.
