HoluxGR-213 SirF Star III chipset n00b questions!

I'm new to the GPS world! I managed to find some info on this FAQ

I didn't manage to find what the difference between Sirf Star II and III is?

The first GPS I tried was a MPFC 22; it worked ok in an open landscape, but in town it sometimes jumped and said that it was 500m from where it was two seconds earlier.

I now use a Holux GR-212. It works really well, have never had any problems with it.

The spec on the GR-213 say 20 channel receiver. How would this improve the performance? On the GR-212 I normally get between 6-8 satellites, so I don't see what should use the 8 extra channels?

SiRFstarIII is a newer chip. It is more powerful, capable of performing more calculations, than its predecessor. While you may not notice a significant advantage when driving in an area where your antenna has a clear view of the sky to all directions, GPS receivers based on this new chip will outperform older generation units in difficult environments (for example among tall buildings, under tree cover, etc.)

The Sirf III chipset uses a lower power then the II and is also if I remember rightly 1000 more sensitivity.. because its lower power it will last alot long if coupled with a BT battery powered unit.. it also allows you to get a fix from places not possible with II chipset. I am very impressed with the one I got.. although I'm still looking out for a serial III chipset gps unit
