There's an endless debate on which GPS programs are the best. You need to do more research. Search "destinator", "mapmonkey", "freedrive", and "iguidance" in the forums and really pay attention to those threads to get an idea of the current state of carputer navigation software. Streets and Trips is great for planning a trip, but you'll need a friend just to manage the navigation end of it. Terrible for carputers.

First, the is no need to ask people, because if you search, you will find where people have POSTED thier impressions and opinions about the various SW packages.

Same thing about receivers, there are so many, and so many varying opinions. The most popular (which doesn't necessarily mean cheapest and/or best) are the Rikaline series, and the Holux series.

You should be fine with any of those receivers. If you have teh cash, and the know how, an OEM GPS would be ideal. for that, and you shall learn about it.

Another note, this forum is here to help you find your answers, not to give you answers.

Search, and read. If you can't find the answer, then we are happy to help. But, it gets annoying having to answer the same question over and over. Think government worker, who gets asked the same question over and over again. Notice how HAPPY they are to give it each time? I thought so. Now imagine that right in front of the worker, there is a BIG sign with the answer to those same questions. Now imagine how much happier she is when she gets asked the same question. Also, how often do you think she is gonna say, READ THE SIGN.

In any event, welcome to the forums. Search, Read, Learn, Ask, Learn, in that order please.

Michael

Do a little more research at the FAQ EMPORIUM by clicking on the link in my signature. You'll find a FAQ to the FAQ's that will contain a link to a thread there about GPS software and receivers. Comparisons of software and their features are in that thread.

From what I've been reading on these forums, the Holux GM 210 seems to be a good receiver. I just picked one up off ebay for $40 new(plus S&H).
