GPS Reciever and Tint

Hey people. I got a Holux 210 reciever. Work perfect on top of the car. But I don't really want to have it on the roof. I was going to mount it in my back wondow (see below link for my car) but I can't detect any satillites. Can these recievers detect them through tinted glass!?

And how long does yours usually take to lock some signals?

Thanks!!!

Not that I no of, However I no you can get non-metalic carbon based tints that work, although this wont help you much if the tint is already there.

It's normal black tint. Not sure about metalliac. Have to contact the guy who put it on and see. I can't why it wouldn't though. Normal GPS's work through clothing and such.

I am new to this, but I'm very impressed. Iguidance.... the gear! I'm amazed.

The color and opacity of the tint is not important, but the material. Llumar and similar brands are metallic and thus will filter out gps/xm/sirius signals. The very expensive but very very good Hüper Optik tint is ceramic based and thus is fine.

Also, search about grounding planes to find out how to boost your GPS signals.

Holux GR-231

I'm using the holux GR-231 and tinted windows with no problems. The receiver finds the satellites fast, usually in under a minute or two. The fewest I've locked onto is about 6 sats. I personally didn't notice a difference after tinting. I have standard tint, 50% on front, 35% on rear and back windows.

most tints are metallic. Get an antenna of place it near the windshield. I had mine on my dash for a while and it worked okay. i usually had atleast 3 locked sattelites. Then i got the GPS 2400 from herchman (sp?) and I always have 9-10 locked sattelites. Search gps 2400 for more information. There is a thread about it.
