How could I make my GPS turn on my Radar detector only while speeding?

Sorry if this is a repeated question, but here goes:

My Valentine 1 (V1) goes off with false alarms all of the time. I get so sick of it that I don't even listen to it much, which is bad.

I've noticed that alot of the GPS systems have an indicator that will pop up if you are traveling over the speed limit. If there could be a way to have the computer running the GPS to be connected to a servo that would only turn on the radar detector while going over the speed limit, it would cut out alot of the false alarms.

I can forsee two complaints here:

1) every time you go over the speed limit, the detector will make the announcement noise that it does when it powers up.

2) You may want to know when the cops are around even when you aren't speeding...but to me, this would be a fair trade to get rid of all of the false alarms.

Does anyone have any ideas here?
Or can you direct me to where someone has already done this...believe me, I've looked.

This doesnt sound very feasible. Youd have to find a database file which matches the speed limit to streets. Youd then have to somehow integrate that into the GPS or make a program that uses the GPS position... Good luck!

actually no...

It seem as though some gps systems "know" the speed limits of most streets.

Most GPS systems are programmed with the general type of street you're on..that works with the 'preferred route' stuff. It knows a highway is a highway, residential street is residential..but it might not know specifically what the speed is, just the type of street, and it uses that to factor the 'quickest' or 'shortest' time.

I have a StealthOne from www.jaricdesign.com. It has the feature of auto-muting if the car is over a set speed. So my V1 mutes automatically if an alert is present and I am going less than 40mph. It works awesome. It would be cool if we could pickup the speed from the OBD-II or GPS software and have it do the same. The speed limit for a particular street doesn't matter to me, just that I hear the alert when I'm going really fast and not when I am going slow. The majority of my alerts come from near malls and stores where the speed limit is usually 35mph or so. Works great for me.

what you'd need isnt a servo but a relay, you'd use power from a pin from a serial connection i'd imagine, but you'd need some pretty good programming skills i'd think.

The V1 interfaces by zPilot and jombonzzz can mute. So all you really need is software now. You could mute or have special sounds on the PC when you are speeding, so you hear the falses plus more annoying sounds when you should be really scared.
