like the audi commercial

theres an audi commercial showcasing new a4 i think. the guy was using the nav system gps thing and using a dial to change the routes to alternative routes... anything like that available for any of the software available?

I dont even think our software can do more than quickest or shortest route.... I havent seen any option to find alternate routes

i think alternate routes would be an awesome feature for gps... link that w/some traffic/construction information and ba bammmm, the best gps ever

I suggested something like what is available in the mercedes system:

you come to a traffic jam, hit the TRAFIC button, and it will tell you how far to the next 2 or 3 possible detours... you select which one you want, and it will give you a detour off your route.... pretty cool... unfortunately I think it isnt easy to implement and maybe isnt even possible

i've always thought of having a feature in a gps kinda like avoid railroad tracks except avoid main roads. for those times when your car isn't exactly legal, like if your taillights are out or if your doing something you don't want to be caught doing (road head)

you can i think in nroute avoid highways...

i dont know how these mapping software deals work, but i'd imagine they'd have to calculate the distance and time for every possible route, then give you the shortest/quickest... so the other routes would "be there" you know?
