Question Unlock Chevy Tahoe Touch Screen OEM GPS

I've got a 2005 Chevy Tahoe with the new Touch Screen navigation / audio system. I've almost got no complaints with the system, but can't stand that the factory prevents the use of the GPS while the car in going faster than 5 or 10 mph.

Does anyone know if the OEM GPS software has been hacked to 'unlock' it's full - uninterrupted - use? Better yet, is there a simple way around this altogether?

This is way off topic for here but I suggest you check for any hand brake sensor.... a lot of OEM systems use that to see if the car is parked.... how ever it does should like they have though of that and are also monertring the GPS movment.

from what i've seen the OEM systems seem to be checking the gps signal for movement now instead of the handbrake. So you would have to find some way to hack it out of the OS of the unit. Probably easier to switch to aftermarket.

.

Wow, whats the point of GPS then ? Does it give you your vehicle's position at all ? Or can you just look up directions ?

I think he means that he's unable to use the TS while driving.. as a saftey thing.

on another note.. why is it that our american manufacturers are so slow to get on the GPS bandwagon?.. well dodge had it in 04 I supose (from what I know, which is little)

My step-dad works for GM and he thought my system rocked.. much more than what they have.. one point for us.

Tahoe With Ts Nav

Thanks for the responses (the productive ones... that is). They lock the TS I'm sure for safety reasons... there's some talk in the US of outlawing navigation and tv monitors in the front seats b/c of distractions concerns. I assume a proactive response by the manufactures is to prevent a outright ban... so they put these "safety" features instead.

Any suggestions on where else to look in the internt for possible hacked OEM operating software?
