Newbie GPS question

I have been working on my carputer for some time now...it is all built and ready to put in (minus a screen, looking for one that fits my budget at the momnent) my question is, what all do you need to run GPS on a carputer(other then software)...is it just that antenna thing that plugs into your USB port or is there more too it then that and would any atlas like software work with any GPS "system"? sorry for these noob questions but i didn't even know what to search for to answer these questions. thanks in advance

Most gps devices send standard NEMA output that most software knows how to read.
