The software will show that it is connected and talking to the gps receiver, but can't get a signal because your receiver is not outside. I had this problem when I tried to test it inside. Im actually on here looking for a new GPS receiver that can be mounted inside the car.

I'm thinking of getting the BU-303 also myself, but I didn't know it sucked with receiving signals like that. But why not put it on the top of your dash as close to the windshield as possible?

One thing to remember is that some windshields have a UV coating that the receivers can't get through, try the back window. I moved mine to the back and now it works great.

my bu303 works under the windshield in certain cars... works in my 240sx, but I prefer to put it outside on my trunklid, where it generally tends to get better signal. I have my eye on the bu 353 which supposedly gets much better signal

I was thinking about the 353 myself. It wasnt' that much more on ebay, but the shape was odd to have outside and inside too. The startup times were the same except for hot start. Ive always had real good reception with it on the trunk lid, but I never tried it in the car before it got ruined. I had hung it out my window of my apartment when I was testing it out for the first time and couldn't get a signal, so i figured it wouldn't work inside. Im going to try it out first since I already ordered one. I think at the bottom of my windshield would be better then the top since it can get a better view of the sky and farther away from the roof.

I put my BU303 on the rear deck right against the rear window and it gets good signal without getting in the way..
Thing with the BU303 is that it is not WAAS and sucks when satellite signal isn't strong due to clouds or mounting location..

I have changed the receiver from the front window to the back now it has been able to get enough signal to work 80% of the time. Any ideas on a new receiver that might be a little stronger then the BU303?
Thanks for the help everyone!

I was told the BU-353 was better, although I haven't tried it. You can find it on ebay though.
K
Edit: The shape of it is kind of odd, or different. I like the style of the BU-303.

Yeah I want to upgrade from the non waas BU303 to a 353 or 355 .. or the BlueTooth version, depending on how bad hibernation support is?

First off, I've been thru the Rikaline 6010, Navsync, Delorme and BU-303. If I put the reciever inside my car...no signal at all. Once I put it outside, I was recieving anywhere from 3-5 sats. But sometimes none at all. I tried the bu355 ( for hibernation purposes ) and my gps hasn't dropped since. Actually, only if I go into a tunnel. Locks in 2 seconds and I always have from 7-11 sats. I highly recommend the 353 or 355. If anyone wants to try their luck...I have two used Rikaline 6010's and one DeLorme receiver.
btw..my car is tinted and it's mounted on my dash.

I agree with DK888, in regards to the recommendation I would definitely look into the 353 or 355. I personally own the 353 and it works like a charm. I get good locks in my apartment (on the first floor of 3 floors). I haven't had a chance to test it in an automobile as I haven't got to installing my carputer, however, from what I've seen so far I love it. Works like a charm, though I have no room for comparison.

Man if it works inside, then thats definitely the one. I even tried to hang my BU-303 out of the window of my place to test it, and still couldn't get a lock. I wish I hadn't have bought one already. Ill probably put it up on ebay and get the 355 with the serial port. I was told it gets a lock faster, or doesn't have that problem with iGuidance first opens up and gives you the message that it can't find the GPS receiver. I have to hit the button, and then it will get a lock after a few seconds.
