GPS Receiver question...
I picked up the IGuiddance 2.1.1 software recently for use with laptop, but I've yet to come to a conclusion on which GPS receiver I want to use with it.
I'm leaning towards the BU-355, but I can't find any good places to purchase it, any reccomendations?
Also, I was wondering if any of the USB GPS Receivers that come with the MS Streets and Tips or Delorme Earthmate GPS kits can be used in conjunction with Iguidance and if so, how well do they function together? Strong signal?
Thanks for any help you guys can offer!
Chris

I use the one with S&T .. I think it's a great GPS reciever, the best thing you cand o to get better reception is to mount externally, I use various plastic covers and silcone sealer to secure it all.. works great!
but almsot all gps devices feed a NMEA signal .. and that's standard for most software

I've got the M$ GPS that comes with S&T. Check out this thread, the Plastic-Dip is under $8.00.

After the first dip dried for 30 mins I added magnets to the base. After 2 hours I added a second coat. I've used it in the New England rain for four days and it still works great.

The magnets have not caused me any problems. Alot of GPS receivers already have a magnet in the base, that's were I got my idea.

You will be happy with the BU353(USB) or the BU355. I purchased mine for 60 bucks shipped on ebay. Very very strong signal.

Pros and cons for serial and USB GPS - BU353 or the BU355? I'm going to buy one and they have both for the same price. Which one should I choose and why? I have the EPIA SP1300 and it has a serial onboard port...
Many thanx

well
usb: more flexable, as most laptops and such have USB but not serial anymore. but the com port can switch on ya in resume from hibernate (mine did, not anymore though).
serial, won't port switch on ya, and doesn't use a valuable USB port especially on those VIA boards.
I like usb and I go with that it's nice to have the option to use it with my lappy. but I think you can get a serial to USB adapter.. to really pick your poison.

i don't think it is an update really. it can start with windows and finds the satellites before you start the program. tells you how many satellites you're locked on to. after i ran this my earthmate works perfect. i think it is some kind of serial/usb thing--puts the receiver on com 3. i will find the file name when i get home from work
