GPS Mouse that don't need to be under the window

Hellow Guys,

For the moment i have a GPS mouse that works quite well, BUT it need to be right under the window to get connections to some sattelites. Now a friend of mine has a pda with gps and his antenna don't bother wether it is under the window or not. It always has a good reception. What GPS antenna(USB) should i buy to get the same result ?

I use the Globalsat BR-355 and it worked very well even through tints in my hatch. I never went under 4 sats and usually saw 6-8. I currently have it mounted on the dash behind my registration and I've never gone under 7 sats. Even if you go with this gps unit, I would suggest putting it on your dash. Better to be in the front of your car anyway as your turn indicators would be a little more accurate.

I've got the GlobalSat BU-353 and a GlobalSat BT-338. The BT-338 seems to have better reception through obstacles, even though both receivers are Sirf Star III. That said, I almost never have less than 5 sats, and that's without a clear view of the sky (not on dash). One time I was riding in the back of a full size van, and I still had 5 sats. If I put it anywhere near a window or windshield (front or back) I get around 8 or 9, sometimes 10 or 11 sats. The difference between units is minimal, so it all comes down to mouse or bluetooth. BU is USB and BT is bluetooth.

Yay! I found a BT user.. If you don't mind a slight take-off from the original topic. How annoying is the blue tooth interface?

I went and bought a BT KB/Mouse combo that cost me $230 CAN and the damn things require Windows XP Service Pack2 for the software to install and even then they disconnect alot and I have to use the touch screen to re-connect them all the time!

Do you have problems going in and out of hibernate with the BT GPS and does iGuidance complain about not finding a GPS everytime you hibernate?

Yeah, bluetooth can be annoying. I didn't have any problems with it disconnecting, even on long drives. But, I did have problems with hibernate. Everytime I got in the car, I had to reaquire the GPS. That ****ed me off. I finally got the USB version (non BT) and now I don't use the BT gps.
