Google encourages people to write plug-ins, overlays, etc just like they do for Google Maps. Well maybe not "just as open", but it is somewhat open).

WW just doesn't seem as fit for a in-car Nav program (even if the map data is free).

Oh I agree 100%, I was just thinking no one can get in toruble with WW, with GE you never know. And topo maps would be awesome for an offroader. You can also download the cache seperately to just get Topo maps of the whole US for example and then just put them in the cache and you are good to go. It is a more mod friendly system, but you are right it is pretty much useless at the moment unless you want to use topo maps, which btw seem to work fine, but are not pretty.

Great way of using GPS!

I have a problem with viewing right now though - it automatically zooms out to 7000 ft and when I zoom and change the tilt it won't stay. I can't find any option to change this...anybody know how?

Anyone else have this problem. I guess I need to mess with the settings some more but I'm getting similar problems. Also, I sometimes get random (high speed) rotations around the current position... often occurs at stop lights. It just seems sort of like a helicopter cam flying about rather than "tracking" like in iG,MM,/FD.

Can someone share their working settings so I can get this going?

You have to change the Tilt/Zoom through nemaGE or Earth-Bridge, you cannot do it using the normal Google Earth controls.

The spinning thing is probably due to signals from your GPS unit. It is probably reporting the change in heading as you see it. It sounds like a pretty cool feature though...

Hey Dylan: Can you make EB so that whenever you are stopped (and showing the flag icon), the map slowly rotates clockwise? LOL.

DiNASTY: Which one of the 2 are you using? Try using the other one .

The "helicopter effect" happens with some GPS receivers. It's due to the bearing that's being reported by your GPS receiver changing while you are stationary. I am currently working on a feature that lets you turn on "smart following" which basically means it will only listen to bearing changes if your current speed is over X MPH (probably would want to set it to, say, 1 MPH or 2 MPH). This means that while you are stopped at a stoplight, if your GPS receiver is jumping position enough for it to think you're changing bearings, Earth Bridge will just ignore those bearing changes until you've started moving significantly enough for a valid bearing to be taken. That will eliminate the helicopter effect.

It's not easy to explain, so I hope I've done a decent enough job here. If all I've done is confuse you, let me know and I'll take another stab at it.

For the navigation issue you might want to give GooPs a try. I designed it so it doesn't interfere with the native Google Earth navigation while tracking. When you change the range, tilt, pan, whatever in Google Earth it stays.

I got all the right menu working. I should be able to upload a GE skin tonight. It won't handle EarthBridge/nemaGE yet, it will just be for Google Earth on a PC with no GPS (for easier development).

Bump.

What do you envision each of your buttons doing Mercury7?

By the way, if you guys did not notice a lot of google earth textures are misalligned by 10-70feet. It is somewhat annoying b/c the GPS signal quality no longer much matters. In the areas I have been in WW actually has better quality in terms of alignment, but GE has better quality textures (which is what they really are). And of course GE has roads, and more importantly to you guys it has all the internet features which make it amazing like the traffic update. I am still frustrated with the misalignment of textures though b/c it makes it appear I am driving through peoples back yards and parking lots etc...This bug is noticed elsewhere as well (on other forums). Mayhaps I will just have to buy delorme's thing or something instead

Well I am in boston and to be honest I was amazed how presice my position was on the map! I am exactly on the road 99% of the times! Well some times i am in the wrong side of the road which wories me a bit but in general no misallignment at all. What about you guys? Sxott where are you located? maybe it has to do with your locaton or maybe your GPS has a constant error, could need a factory reset, I have seen it happen before

I live in Oregon and most of the time the positioning is quite accurate, but there are certain areas where all the texture data is shifted west by about 20-50 feet. It should be noted, though, that all the road overlay data is very, very accurate. So in the areas where the texturing is a tad bit off, I trust the road overlay. But again, most of the time it isn't a problem.

I am in Texas though not in a large metroplex perhaps that is why. I know my GPS is correct b/c as I said I have a handheld GPS that agrees, WW shows it correcly, MS streets and trips shows it correctly, on GE is incorrect. If you look on the forum linked to above that originally had the development for the GE plugin several posters there have the same issue. It is googles fault though, but I am sure it will be fixed sometime soon.
