Finally something on ALKs website about CoPilot 9.
http://www.alk.com/switch/default.asp

It's to get you to switch but where you click on the more info it brings you to the copilot 8 page. geez.

Got some more info on CoPilot 9. This is in regards to questions I had for sales at ALK.

Michael,

CoPilot Live | Laptop 9 features scrolling maps for the 3D map view. In other words, they have updated this map view so the arrow representing your vehicle is stationary, and the map scrolls ahead as you drive. The other map views feature a moving arrow, and the maps adjust when the arrow reaches approx. halfway up the screen.

You will not be able to use ATT Natural Voice or any 3rd party text-to-speech engines with CoPilot.

The interface for the program is not customizable as far as adding or removing buttons, changing fonts/colors, etc.

If you need information regarding SDKs, please contact Dan Titus at titus@alk.com.

If you have any further questions, or would like to place an order, please call 888-872-8768 ext. 550.

Thank you,

Jason Fingar

Sucks that ATT Natural voices can't be used with it. I already emailed the Titus guy about the SDK. I guess we'll see what happens with that.

Well I disagree about the colors, it would just be alot of work. I have thought about editing all of the bitmaps in the folders used in the GUI to match the skin I use(maybe create a skin to flow better with copilot), but I just have not found the time. One thing I have done is lower the volume of the WAV voice prompt. They are way to loud when the music is up. I use their UK set(for that James Bond car sound), and moved them to the US folder. I also think it would be funny to have the "nagging wife" set of WAV files.

Well, Dan Titus responded...

Michael:

Please provide background on your need for the SDK… it is designed for 1,000+ unit fleet deployments.

Dan

This is just a one off type of thing for my hobby. If this could be done though, it would draw a lot of demand from the mp3car.com comunity. I just purchased Live 9. Not sure what else to tell you other than it would be awesome if the SDK was available and I could integrate it into Meedio. Please let me know the price, etc. if it is available.

Thanks,

Michael.

Perhaps in Q2/06… queue is full ahead for the large fleet deployments… if we get it simplified enough, we could then provide an “out of box” integration option… Dan

So, maybe there is hope after all, but not any time soon probably.

The real need is to be able to resize the screen so that everything fits on a typical 7" screen (800x480). I've always thought it was the best as far as using it in the car, but the lack of flexibility in displaying the information and the proprietary POI interface were deal killers.
