Programming Lexus navigation while driving

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have a 2005 Lexus RX 330 with nav. Does anybody here know how to defeat the "safety" feature that keeps you from programming the unit while driving? I have some Garmin GPS units that let you over ride that feature. Can it be done on the Lexus?

there is probably a Ebrake sensor that can just be overided. You need to find the wiring harness breakdown/info. there is probably one wire that completes a circuit when the E brake is enabled. just need to find that wire and ground it. (my guess, lexus might have put protection against this) but anything is doable!

K, quickly

Hit menu, then in the top right, hit DVD

On the next screen, whcih only has the DVD info, do the followinng

Tap the screen in this order

Top left
Bottom Left
Top Left
Bottom Left
Bottom Right

There are no button, just hit the screen
Then, press and hold the "override" button till it changes state, and you are good to go.

You have to do this each time.

The order of the screen taps might be

Bottom Left
Top Left
Bottom Left
Bottom Right
Bottom left

But I think the first it correct. I use it in the GF car all the time.

You must do this everytime you start the car.

Michael

Thanks, Michael, but it didn't work for me. Are you sure you remembered the right sequence?

Yeah, well, I do it with my Garmin Street Pilot lll in my other car. There are times when you need to make changes on the go. It should be my choice, not lexux's.

I think the reason they implement this is a liability issue. (and possibly to be 'legal' it needds to be disabled whilst driving?)

I agree,

But as far as defeating it, that is the way to do it.

First, are you getting to the screen where the DVD info is being displayed. Realize there are not buttons topress, you just got to touch the screen.

Also, try touching it a little lower then the outside edges.

The sequence is one of the ones I posted, either

top left
bottom left
top left
bottom left
bottom right
EDIT: I Just realized that it probably needs a bottom left tap also, cause I remeber ending on the bottom left.

or

bottom left
top left
bottom left
bottom right
bottom left

Let us know.
Michael

Thanks, Michael...i got it...it worked. You left out one thing though. You hit "MENU" then "VOLUME" and then tap the edges like you said...all left side though, beginning at the top. Top L, Bottom L, Top L, Bottom L, and the system screen appears just like you said.
