Committing a n00b sin, but I just need to be sure.
I try hard not to be a n00b, sometimes I can't help it...
I use Centrafuse for a front end.
I've played with iGuidance (and iGMon) for a while and I'd like to try out one of the Destinator-based solutions. I've searched and seen a few posts on what I need to do, but those posts are from March '05 and I've also seen some references to some newer versions of Destinator.
Here's what I think and some questions, can someone confirm?
- I have to buy the Destinator SDK from http://www.destinatorsdk.com. I pick the el-cheapo support plan.
- I may have to email them a few times to get the right dll files. Is it OK to tell them I'm running mapmonkey with their SDK or do I need to pretend to be a developer?
- I have to buy North American maps from somewhere. I've seen URLs for this.
- What's up with Destinator PN? How about Destinator 2 for PCs? I saw these on various sites. It looks like PN is for pocket PCs only? Is D2 for PCs an older version? What I'm wondering is, is there and actual Destinator mapping software I could buy with North American maps rather than the SDK?
- Is there a GPS plugin for Centrafuse 1.4 (I know there is for 1.5)? Or, am I just stuck embedding freedrive/mapmonkey for that version?
Thanks for your patience.

No need to complicate things.
Flux Media is a reseller of Destinator, so it will be directly integrated into the program. If you download CF 1.5, you can try it out (although it's currently not finished, and only a couple of maps are used).
Hop over to the CF forum!
How do you like iGuidance though? I am considering trying it out with CF.

I have 1.4 and 1.5.
I know 1.5 will ship with Destinator included, but I have to wait. I'd like a GPS solution now.
iGuidance is sort of OK, I can't use it well in the car, buttons are small, text is small, etc. I've tried embedding it with SkinBedder and iGmon and both work some of the time.

If you are interested in Destinator, try out a copy of FreeDrive, you might be surprised

Ahh OK. I wasn't sure if you realized that the GPS in CF will actually be Destinator.
I think I'll pass on iGuidance and just wait for CF. All of these embedding solutions are a PITA and don't work 100%. Plus, I haven't read anything but problems from people trying to get Destinator working.
Why not just use iGuidance now and wait for CF?
At least this way you won't have to worry about buying the same piece of software (Destinator) more than once when Destinator is released with CF. Not to mention the simplicity of hitting "Nav" and having everything perfectly integrated.
That's just my take though.

Whats up kbyrd,
Dont waste your time with destinator. Realize that you live in the USA and the maps suck balls give bad directions and the 3d view doesn't have street names (freekin useless). It is so bad that you have to switch maps if you ever go on a long distance trip
iguidance is where it is at. Take my word for it. I have tried most solutions and settled with iguidance
