DEAD RECKONING!! Has anyone done it!! GPS integration with automobile

Just wondering if anyone has messed or is attempting to deal with the issue some of us get in dense urban areas, like NYC, where sat signals bounce from buildings and drive iGuidance nuts ;;;
This is solved by OEM nav units and some headunits like Pioneer by linking auto info, like speed, and wheel direction w/ a gyro, to the GPS's software to override the receiver's inputs.
THis would be way cool if it can be done in a carpc automobile!!

Tisk Tisk, double posting. You should quickly delete http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/gps/64566-dead-reckoning-has-anyone-done-gps-integration-automobile.html before someone posts and you can't.

I thought they were using it with IG, but I don't remember. Basically, what happens is that the GPS unit takes the signal from the speed sensor, and just sends it to the program (IG) as an NMEA message, so that the program thinks the unit is still moving. I think it also contains a gyro to let it know if it is turning.

DUH , of course! I was thinking all complicated therefore the reasoning that I had was that it had to be software related....
Thanks!

How has it been working for you??? How long have you had it for?? This might be a good alternative since being in the tunnel doesnt take that long anyways!!

I have this usb reciever for one or two months. As long as I start my computer, it get lock already under my windshield. I drive to NYC around china town and had no problem recieving signal. I get signal even under subway track at Queens and the half open tunnel at BQE. Amazing!

If you need a GPS to find your way out of a tunnel, then you have other problems...
