Unhappy Holux GPSlim 236 Help

I'm problems getting my receiver to work under XP. I have i couple of questions. So anybody having this receiver??

1) I was told at the shop when i bought it that i wont be having trouble getting it to work with Garmin's Mapsource & nRoute. But when its not connected I get see the maps in full detail, when I start tracking the details switch to lowest although it shows maximum in the preferences. Is it a compatibility issue??? Any solutions?

2) I couldn't get it to work on windows XP (only works on 2000). It detects it and and pairing is fine (its bluetooth), but the virtual COM port to Bluetooth device is showing in the services, but it doesn't seem to be active.

I know the receiver is working fine as it works flawlessly with my nokia 7710. Its got great lock and everything im getting 9 - 11 sats when placed on the dash (having a dark tint too)

Anybody please.

It should work under WinXP, no problem. But I don't think it will work with your nRoute. I do believe nRoute will not work with a standard NMEA receiver. It requires proprietary Garmin hardware :-(

What do you think of the Garmin GPS 10 (bluetooth). does is work as good as the GPS 18 (usb)??

Does the bluetooth version support the industry standard NMEA 0183 data format, or is it like the usb version (using only the GARMIN proprietary format)??

The price for GPS 10 : $230
The price for GPS 18 + Europe's Maps: $176

If they had the oem version of GPS 18, i would have gone with that. But Europes maps

I would probably go for the USB, I just have a feeling it's better to go for a hard wired connection where practical. Less chance of things stuffing up!
