FindFirstChangeNotification
FILE_NOTIFY_CHANGE_LAST_ACCESS
That should be the thing to monitor... now looking for code. For some reason the code I've found doesn't do **** for it. Plus, there is a chance that the last access gets written after the file is closed, which would do us no good

Here's a Mac solution for you (it's the one I'm using): VirtualPC running any of the PC softwares. I plan on using iGuidance. And since it will be running on an emulated machine, I'll still be able to keep iTunes running, and maybe even applescript it to reduce the volume when VPC has something to say. Granted VirtualPC is less than ideal (read: "slow"), I've got a gig of RAM in the Mini, which lets me push VPC all the way up to 512Mb (maximum), and these Nav softwares aren't hugely processor intensive. Since it is all that I will be running on the emulated machine, I don't forsee any speed problems.

Ok... I played around with this in delphi. Seems that I need to use that expensive component
Maybe someone has better examples in a different language.

I ordered a Globalsat BU-353, it came in a package from a link I found here. Haven't recieved it yet, I'll let you know how it works in a week or so. I'll post it up in the MacCar forums.

Well, I did get delphi to see that the sound file was opened. Problem was that it involved a 2000 euro component, and that the free components don't seem to work at all
Maybe there are better components for other languages (such as C# or VB), but I can't program in those
