Are we sure those apps only read datas à 1hz ? Who tested a fast gps already ?
I mean, the gps spits datas to the port when it can, no matter if there's a app to listen what it says or not Even if these apps can only listen a 1hz data rate, dudes, I could build my own kaman filter to tame jerky gps' outputs into a more reliable 1hz data update.

Since I'll be using uBlox, and probably my own software, I could account for the right update speed.
Hmmn.. Just looked at the site, out of curiosity, and it claims an update of 1hz..
It claims that the DR stuff updates at 40hz though? Interesting.
specs
This module is unfortunately only 1hz
Other non DR modules offered by Ublox go as high as 8hz as jc said
The 40hz isnt an output type frequency. Its the rate at which it can do its DR calculations. It then spits out data again at 1hz

you mean like a project box?
I wasnt planning on it, as i'm not the best when it comes to stuff like that, iti'll probably end up looking like a 5 year old made it
All i'm going to include is the board, standoffs, screws and the 4 pin connector for you to attach your wires to.

Not yet, the main reason I havent did a test is that your not supposed to run the module without a valid VSS signal and on my car the only way to get the VSS signal is take a bunch of stuff out from under the hood to get to the primary wiring harness. So i'm waiting till a weekend where I dont need the car all day so I can take it all apart. Which i'm hoping will be this upcoming saturday.

I just ordered all the parts from u-blox. jcdillin any chance u can make me one of those boards ,PLEEEEEASE. I will pay for it ofcource! If not, could you send me the schimatics and the parts list? This is an amazing find! i was also playing around with this idea http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/show...587#post730587 Google Earth GPS Tracking Solution. These two together would be perfect!

You don't really need a faster GPS receiver for your software not to show jerky movement. I use Navigon Mobile Navigator 5 with a pocket pc and it takes care of that. Although it is connected to a Garmin GPS 10 receiver which updates at ~1 sec the movement on the software itself is very smooth. No jerking at all and in 3D too.
I suppose the software takes an average of the vehicle speed and the road it's moving on based on the GPS information it has.
I think this is also done in BMW's. I've seen the 7-series navigation system with smooth 3D navigation. Of course there they're also using DR for steering, not only speed. If a system is done this way you don't really care even if your GPS updates at every 10 seconds you will still get a smooth and accurate update of your location!

DR systems have a gyro in them for taking account of steering changes. the speed section is linked into the VSS on the car and is onyl part of the ublox and other DR systems. BMW probably use either ublic, tyco or the ohter DR I cant remember (navman possibly)

well, I'm waiting for JC to do my board, so I guess he can do yours as well... we just have to wait patiently till JC tested out his board in the car environment and everything should be ready. I know it works outside since he already test that part out... I think.

I too used NAVIGON Mobile Navigator 5.2 for PPC and that smooth movement you described doesnt happen on mine, it jerks at 1Hz.
I was expecting this to be smooth on navigon as its "supposed" to be better as some say than the TomTom 5. I do have TomTom 5.21 for PPC and TomTom 5.20 for my phone, both are very smooth when connected to my 1Hz garmin GPS.
Unless theres a setting I missed?

I first updated to 5.2 but then the whole thing got messed up it couldn't even do auto routing for some reason! Contacted Navigon and they said I should revert back to 5.0 as 5.2 is a "special" version for some major devices or something. Maybe you should try that. According to them 5.0 is exactly the same as 5.2 with no updates.

Cheers,
I just install 5.0, the route demo is not on the menu so Im gonna have to test it with a real GPS and drive around. No time yet, but Ill let you know if it does work.
