I got around to making a map with a valid confoguration file for u-center and had it plot me on it
The plot is PERFECT. Everything is dead on
Blue indicates singal loss and DR, green indicates 3D lock
In DR I was plotted correctly which is exciting. The loss of signal on the bottom part of the map were trees blocking view and the one at the top was the freeway overpass. Unfortunately CoPilot just didnt plot me the same way. Argh. Still yet to test other GPS programs but will report back

Well I'm almost done with my unit! Will start testing by next week I hope. BTW aoLhaTer CoPilot is very picky on the gps input. I have a hard time using it with serial port splitter programs also. Are you guys using direct feed from the speed pulse line of the car? Just tap it?

Ed Reily at Ublox has advised me to turn off all the extraneous NMEA messages being sent and only send RMC, GGA and GSV
Seems to make sense; if the program is getting more data than it can handle its going to freak out

I have discovered the solution to 3rd party software not playing nice with the DR functionality
In order for DR to work in 3rd party applications YOU MUST "enable position output even for invalid fixes". This option is found in u-center under View->Configuration View->NMEA
(I also enabled position output even for masked fixes but not quite sure what that means)
With that option enabled the guidance programs always think that theres a GPS signal even if there's not one (ie in DR mode). Worked excellently in CoPilot. San Francisco test through downtown worked flawlessly
Unfortunately my problem now is that the backup battery is dead!! This is the second one to die, I need to recheck the circuit. So now none of my settings get saved and it takes 45 seconds to get a sat lock from cold start

made the circuit but it doesn't work!.... must recheck everything. I hope my board is not defective! And wanted to test during the weekend... going for a trip to NY... will try to get it working before saturday morning... I followed Laidback's circuit. I used a terminal to see the port output and I could see some output but it did not make sence. Some dollar signes mainly, no NMEA sentences

What were you using to test? HyperTerminal? Tried u-center?
What MAX chip are you using?

yes HyperTerminal. I did try U-center but it didn't see anything on the port. I used the MAX233cpp and serial port 1.
