MapPoint 2001

Installing and Running MapPoint Over a Network:

To copy MapPoint files to a server:

o Create an installation folder on the network server
o The folder name must not include any spaces. For example, a valid folder name is MPInstall.
o Insert the MapPoint Setup disc in your disc drive, and copy its contents to the folder you just created on the server.
o Insert the MapPoint Run disc in your disc drive, and copy its contents to the same folder.
o Note: MapPoint will not install to file servers that only support 8.3 filenames (also known as short filenames).

To install and run MapPoint over a network:

o On the client machine, map a network drive to the installation folder on the server where the MapPoint files have been copied.
o Note MapPoint may not run correctly over some networks unless the folder from which MapPoint is to be run is mapped using a drive letter (instead of connected using a Universal Naming Convention (UNC), such as \\servername\foldername).
o From the installation folder on the server, double-click Setup.exe, and follow the online installation instructions.
o The MapPoint program files are installed on the client machine.
o From the Microsoft MapPoint folder on the client machine, double-click mappoint.exe.

Ok. Do the following on your old mans PC (create a folder called MPInstall, copy the cd contents to it)

On your car pc (map drive to folder from above step, run setup.exe)

1. why are you installing over a network, why not install locally?
2. Which PC are you trying to install it on.
3. It doesn't have to be on your old mans PC, you can do it on your home or car pc.

It doesn't matter what machine you put it on, I'm assuming that you don't have a cd drive in your CarPC so you can just install it direct to your CarPC.

Since you asked what to do, I told you, and I picked your old mans.
