GPS Shift Light Buzzer

hi all

im looking for a speed software that can be set for a 5-6 gears engine, ,like a tachometer....if the top of the first gear is 7000 RPM and the speed in that RPM is 50KM and the top of the sec gear in 7000 RPM is 100KM atc', i want to set each gear his own speed . .i know shif lights can be connect to the car with three wires...but a gps shift light will be nice..

i know in Map monkey the speed can be set and use any wave to alert you about the speed but it have only one speed to set,so now i need more 5 like that

any ideas??

tnx

What does a GPS have to do with your engine's RPM's?

So you want a light bulb to light if you exceed a certain speed? Or is just an indicator on the computer screen ok?

I'll make it if you pay me, I'm pretty cheap.

Keep in mind that GPS is usually a second or 2 slow at calculating your speed, it may not be useful for your application. There is probably better ways to do this.

what i was looking all over the net is a shift light with three beeps buzzer like in the subaru impreza sti but i didnt found anything so i was thinking to use a function as a custom speed alert like in map monkey but with five speeds setting ,each speed for each gear.

i dont understand much in electronic but im sure this thing can be solved with a simple circut that can make three beeps each time a 12V is runing,
some one here have the knolge for that...? tnx

There is one significant flaw in your idea:
Shift points are determined by engine rpm, not by speed.

if you shift by speed u r going to fubar your tranny

example, going up a hill in second gear you might be at 4,000 rpm but only going 20 mph

where on flat road in second gear going 20 mph, you might be at 1500 rpm.

*cough* you should look at taking the output on your ignition coil, and figuring out a way to get that to one of your rpm fan headers *cough* will require electronics work though, might even be a thread around here on the subject.

so and for it

this aint right..
at 4000rpm in 2nd gear ur car is always going to do the same speed regardless of a hill or decline..

RPMs = revolutions per min

depending on the gear, that will always equal some speed because of the ratios, but i'd still say the RPMs is a better way to go incase the clutch slips or something. (It's also just how it's done)

Wow - you must not own a manual trans vehicle...

My car (97 Ford Aspire) doesn't have a tachometer. In the manual that came with the car they say to base your shift points off the speed of the vehicle. Yes, this may not be the most ideal point to shift along the RPM curve, but it works without problems. Besides, most newer cars have regulators that don't allow you to blow the engine if you don't shift or miss a shift. (Rev limiter)

Like someone else brought up - the only issue you would have is the lag between the GPS readouts and the time it actually shows up in your carputer. You could possibly build in some sort of compensation to make up for the lag, but even then it would be mediocre at best.

I think it would save more time and be worth the money to just go out and buy an actual tachometer that can handle what you want. More reliable, built for the purpose, and they are usually as big as a carputer screen for easy readability.

ok,i found a shift light at ebay for $12.99 http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=8034318062 ,but how do i add a three "beep" sound each time the light is ON??,i can simply add a buzzer to the light and get an ugly buzzzzzzzzz sound each time the light is ON ...but a three short beep sound will mauch better,if someone can build a non expensive small circuit for that please send me PM . tnx

Unless you're racing, why do you need something to tell you when to shift anyway?
