Connecting a Rikaline 6033 to Laptop w/o Bluetooth

Hey there,

I noticed that this GPS unit (http://www.mobilitysite.com/articles/link.php?id=277) only connects through Bluetooth, and not USB. I would like the bluetooth for my PDA, but my laptop doesn't have it. Since I would like to use the unit on both my PDA and laptop, is there a solution for me?

I was thinking about buying one of those USB Bluetooth sticks that plugs into the USB port of your computer (http://cgi.ebay.ca/USB-BlueTooth-Wir...QcmdZViewItem). Would this work, or would it cause compatibility issues? Thanks!

All I really want to know is if a non-bluetooth laptop can have a bluetooth interface (by means of a USB dongle) and work with this GPS without any issues.

You know what I mean? Maybe converting a bluetooth signal into USB would cause issues with some programs, I'm not sure. Any input on this?

Thanks

No reason why it shouldn't work... That GPS receiver you're looking at is all over ebay as well.

There are a lot of Solar Powered GPS units on the market right now also, which looks pretty interesting to me. They average 20 hours of battery when not in sunlight.

The new generation of receivers don't need line of sight to the sky either, so you can leave it in the glove box and it will still acquire satlock (well, not the solar ones, obviously).

Get a USB bluetooth adapter. It will work. Bluetooth is a universal standard, so any bluetooth adapter will work with any bluetooth device (assuming it's compatible with the host)

Actually that GPS receiver you're looking at is listed in ebay auction #9727652736 for approx $2 with around $25 shipping. I've watched a few of those receiver auctions and they end pretty low, so you're just looking at the shipping cost.
