Track Multiple Vehicles

Is there a way to implement something so that my friends and I could all see where our cars are. If it didnt have to use a carpc that would be even better, as some of my friends dont have them. Like do they sell a transmitter that i could implement in to a GPS program, so it could show their location in relation to mine?

put gps tracker into the search box and see what comes up.

Funnily enough because this is primarily a carPC forum most of the solutions are carpc based. However if you look deep enough into theose threads you might find a link to other options.

also don't forget there are companies which can track by mobile phone

Best would be a high powered RF antenna? Then you could locate your freinds within a Mile or so? You'd need:

A Microcontrolller
A GPS Device
I'd just break apart one from eBay:
eBay
and most of all:
A High Power Tramsciver

The AC4424-200 on the last page has a 2 mile range at 192 Kbps *drool*

edit: wire + glue would be useful too!

Its not that i wont be using a carputer, But some of my friends dont have them. But they still think its cool to be tracked, so i was hoping there would be a way to send out the signal of their location without the aide of a carpc. Ill have to look into that RF thing some more. thanks for the help so far.

Well i was hoping more along the line of what lojack uses, only the signal would always be sending out, but on a different frequency than the cops looking for stolen cars. Anyone know how this could be done. Or is this a lost cause unless I want to spend like $10000

Its very simple and not too expensive, here is an article on howto do it and the hardware needed.

You can adapt it to your needs.

Do a forum search for Goops. There is someone that has developed an app like that as a plugin for Google Earth. He is looking for Beta testers, sounds like just what you are looking for...

Goops looks good, but i think it requires your friends to have it as well, this would not work in my case as some of my friends dont have carputers. I was really hoping for something like a tiny transmitter that constantly sent out the location, like im talking really small, like no bigger than a cell phone. Then when that unit comes within range say a mile or so, it would alert me on my nav screen and possibly even place it on the map with my location.
