Carpc gives you WAY more options... But the d1 is a great unit.

With carpc's, the gps needs to see the 'sky' otherwise you drop signal.
The D1...you need the GPS maps on the DVD disk needs to be inside the unit at all times to use gps. If you need to play your cd's. You'll need to get the disc changer in the trunk. There are pro's and con's.

D1 with cd changer installed at a shop is about $1800-$2000

Carpc - about $1000 w/o installation

I listen to XM while using my GPS. iGuidance talks over the XM so it works really well. I have the BR-355 GPS and it gets a signal while the truck is parked in my garage.

You know...come people claim that it works even in steel buildings.. I've NEVER experienced that. Being in NYC alone is hard to get signal at times. Maybe b/c I have mine placed on my dash board and there's some sort of interference. Basically, this is the only gps that works INSIDE my car. I've been through the DeLorme, Rikaline6010, Navsync and BU-303. None worked inside my car. Go figure!

I'm afraid to mount the gps outside for 2 reasons.
1. People might get curious and mess with the gps on the outside
2. I've heard that these antenna's are not as waterproof as they claim to be.

For now... the BU355 works very good on my dash. I can imagine if it were mounted outside somehow.
