I will be using it for real time routing in the car, I'm asking because if it's avaliable it would be nice to use for another means as well....

streets and trips is what you want. You can tell it specifically to not use high frequency roads. And it will give you mileage and length

The latest Street Atlas also has a "Route Through" type of feature.... so you'd just use that on the streets you want to use.

OR...Since maps are to scale, you can count using the key usually located at the bottom of the map

Hint: use finger

Problem solved.

BTW, which bike are you taking, and how long are you riding? Long distance on those bikes must be a killer on your back!

those extremely twisty roads can be measured REAL accurately using that method....

Both bikes.

I ride, he rides, we're taking both ducs

and they are only painful if you don't ride much at all.

people who complain about pain, simply don't ride their bike enough.

I've done 600 miles in a day on my supersport, he's done a few 500 mile days as well....not a problem at all...

thursday riding from McKinney to austin, then friday around the hill country here in texas, get married saturday, ride back to McKinney on sunday, then off to arkansas on the bikes for 5 days for the honey moon then back on Friday.

all total - looking at 3500-4000 miles at least for this trip.

The only good answer I have is DeLorme Street Atlas USA 2006 if you train it to use voice navigation and hook it up to a helmet mic... It is absolutely unusable on a small screen, but if you set your route ahead of time, it can be excellent by sound alone. It will let you add via points in to force the routing where you want it.

It's already been determined that MS Streets and Trips is the best bet.

Go back and read through the rest of the posts so I don't have to completely retype it all...

oh, I read them, I'm just not functioning very well this week, switching to 3rd shift and back this week, lol. I actually would use Street Atlas USA over Streets & Trips for trip planning (I have both installed on this laptop, and I use them daily) but it does have more of a learning curve, and you did say you were going to use it in the car... It's widely accepted that the interface is a pain in the &$$ to use while driving.
