Garmin GPS 18 5hz

Has anyone tried out this new GPS from Garmin. It's 5hz, so it looks interesting.

Prob is that so far (last time I read the DR thread) we don't know if any of the GPS programs that we use will take more than 1hz.

Thanatos.

There's also no NMEA output, which is what the more popular (and functional) GPS navigation packages require.

thanatos is right, so far no programs able to take advantage of 5hz. But if you read the specs on Garmins website, this unit does have NMEA output. Its only the usb version that outputs into garmin format.
