BU-353 question

I received my BU-353 earlier in the week. I think the unit may be defective, so I was wondering if my installation procedure was correct. Here's what I did...

1.) install drivers from CD
2.) install GPS Information application from CD
3.) plug BU-353 into USB port

When I plug in the BU-353, Windows does not react at all. It's like I haven't plugged it in. No Found New Hardware ballon or even the USB connection sound that Windows usually makes. I also used the Scan Com Ports feature in the GPS Information application and all the Com ports come back with "No Device".

I've tried this on 3 different computers. Am I missing something or is the unit defective?

I'd think the unit is pretty defective.

Doesn't help. Tried all the USB ports. Doesn't show up in Device Manager. I'm going to send the device back. Thanks for your help.

Mine shows up as a Prolific serial-to-USB device and it associated with a COM port. Mine happens to be COM15.
