Sama,

from your comments it seems as though the emulator window cant be embedded in RR. Can you however run it on top of RR as a standalone app. What I mean is, point the GPS button in RR to open up the tomtom link that currently resides on my desktop (created as per your initial instructions). I tried creating a batch file but it cant seem to recognise any directories which have spaces etc and so wont run, any help would certainly be appreciated.

Oh, and of course, thanks for the wonderful work, I have the emulator and running on my home pc quite nicely with tomtom installed, i do however seem to be missing all the petrol station poi's and all the restaurant poi's. once i get hold of them, how do i go about installing them?

thanks,

Amit K

hey. I just start tomtom from the desktop using a shortcut. it's not the best solution but it does the job.

as for POI's, you just drop them into the same directory as the map, and then enable them using the POI menu in the preferencces.

Cheers

Yipee!

I got it working!

Can't get any sound out of it now though EDIT: Sound seems to be working now, don't know what I did

Had a right toil! My Holux GR213 has been stuck in SirfMode but I took a dremel to it on saturday and ripped out the backup battery, froze it overnight in the freezer, and eventually it reset so I could use it in NMEA mode at 4800

TomTom seems to run pretty sweet on my Insight P4 2.4, so that might have to be stuck in the car instead of the SP13000

Not managed to get it in a front end yet though - Trying to get it embedded in RR & CF today...

Great tutorial!

I've got it working, TomTom Navigator 6 on a 1.3 Centrino/1 Gb Ram laptop. And it runs smooth! I'm using a Navilock Sirf 3 (Globalsat) USB GPS mouse.

My experiences:

- Works great with even the lowest memsize (64mb). As a matter of fact I don't think the memsize really matters.
- Don't set your port mapping, you'd better map your com ports every time you restart the emulator.
- The installation was very very very very (did I say very?) very slow. It looked like the emulator was frozen from time to time.
- I'd copied the files to the fake SD first and installed it from the emulator. I haven't used Active sync

Now I need a Xenarc screen and a dedicated lapopt

John, any updates on embedding it? I think someone will need to write some VB code to us the emulator.

the other option could be to use a skin that doesn't have any borders or edges, and make the window always be in the same place. this will probably prove annoying though when you want to use the music screen as the window would either have to be on top, or to disappear.

same here

I think perhaps usign this http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms905130.aspx, we can at least remove the borders from around the emulator, and make it appear in the same position every time it's started.

if we do that, and force the window NOT to be on top, then have an autohotkey/autoit/whatever command that brings the emulator to the front when you click on the GPS button in RR, window, then I think it might just do the trick.

I tried the emulator with TT 6.0.30 or something on a test pc. Can`t get a GPS signal just yet but it looks promising. If this could be integrated in RR with Freedom Ultimate skin (which looks very kickass) would be awesome.

I know use Centrafuse but RR + Freedom Ultimate is also itching my fingers. Especially when CF comes out of Beta and can only be bought.

Now i have to try to get it to work with my C2D T5500 Car PC.

i have similar problem, i cannot get the signal, hence the question re port map, cos i think u just need to map it correctly and i know a few guys in this forum have done it.
BTW what sort of GPS mouse you are using, assume its USB, but what make/model?
cheers

Well, i installed i on my Car PC and it does work. I do however use the latest Device Emulator so the instructions from the "TomTom How To" are a little bit different. But i mapped the com port with the settings screen. I use a USB GPS in the car (OEM one) and i also tested it on the other pc with a Serial GPS (Globalsat BR-304).

What i did notice was that before i can get a signal i first have to run some kind of GPS Info tool. It`s called GpsViewer and in that software i click the coorect com port (in my case com4) and the right port speed (9600) and the i click "Open GPS". Then if i close the app and start TomTom it works.

Now i have to find something to automatically do that. But i will use Tomtom as a backup together with Centrafuse for now. Untill it gets embedded correctly in RoadRunner/Freedom Ultimate.

I was able to get everything working.

but when I start TomTom it points to the midle of nowhere.
The status bar shows "Location:?"

Right when I start the application it actually shows a map but after it finds the GPS it goes to the middle of nowhere..

No usable locations near gps position.

I used GPSgate 2.0 to point the com4 (my gps port) to a virual port on the ppc emulator...

edit: my position is locked at E 45 00 00 N 50 00 00 i dont' know how to make it look for my current position. Could it be the bauld rate? Or the fact that I'm using a microsoft gps (St&T)?

Any help?

thanks in advance

Progress Report:

Had to re-install my system this week, thought I'd give a slightly V-Lited Vista Ultimate a go on my SP13000

I must say, it doesn't feel any slower than XP Pro!

Anyway, I pulled the old TomTom stuff off an old backup drive, and went to give it a run...

Guess what - It works, and it embeds, without crashing, into CF, not tried RR yet. Woohoooo

I don't know just how responsive it will be out on the road as my CarPC is still in the house with no GPS connected.

Menu's cycle pretty smoothly though

CPU is quite taxed running this, but it just copes.

Maybe I'll try it in car with a P4 ITX board?!?

...More to come
