it maybe that it's not paired up in time, and you may have to establish a connection prior to starting the emulator.
same hapens to me via usb receiver but i plug it in first and it starts up fine - not sure if it works yet though - i am having other problems though but am getting there!!
one of the other problems is also referred to in previous posts re the length of the 'shortcut' - misssing letters/words when its pasted into the shortcut - i changed the storage card in 'c' to storagec and then change the same in the shortcut - BINGO - the issue must have been something to do with the length of the string?
also for some reason when i downloaded it was ppc emulator 1.0 not 2.0 - again a quick change to the string solved that problem (when i say quick i mean bloody ages working it out and 2 secs to change it!)
hope this helps those having the same problems

dave:
that's interesting. perhaps instead of using a shortcut, a batch file can be used. it would be a annoying since the batchfile will stay there (a command window)
Lion:
only /u0 works. I really don't understand the state saving method. sometimes it works, sometimes it does't.
you can use a utitlity called autohotkey, which allows you to automate keyboard shortcuts and mouse clicks. that way, you can always start with no serial device, and when the emulator start, you can get autohotkey to put the serial on then start tomtom. it's not the best solution, but it's better than having to do it manually.

batch files? sorry mate im just a pleb who doesnt know much about such things - never having had to - its all trial and lots of errors for me. i have started to rewrite your instructons as they work for me - not got there yet though (the working bit) though im almost sorted - just need to work out the copying files from the emulater to storagec - hope you dont mind me rewriting the instructions with more detail - only because as a pleb i had to try to work out what you meant - thanks for your work so far though - credit to you for getting me this far

it fires up ok, but i havent ran it yet fully in the car on an 850meg 250 ram - i will try it this week and let you know - my 12v adapter just arrived (12v -19v dc) nearly sorted the rewrite aswell - more of a longhanded version of whats out there, but if youre a pc 'average' bod it might help! the settings for the gps proved to be an issue until i followed the instructions SLOWLY!
but it sits at home and WORKS!

anyone any ideas why the simulation mode of a prgrammed route only runs for about ten minutes? i checked the screensaver, power options etc and they seem to be ok, the pda resets and starts again from origin. im running it on a p3 1gig and it seems fine - havent tried it in car yet though on this system - nearly there though - just waiting for 12v monitor to arrive and i can trial it properly
big up to sama! (apparently that means something in the world my kids live in!)

that sounds very weird. is it on any route or the same one? not that I have a clue why either way!
hehe, big up! I haven't heard that since I left school. it's a form of respect amongst hoodlemettes!

sorry for multiple posts, but this does look very interesting. apparently it's very high performance compared to others, has full uk 7 digit postcode look up too. but... it lacks POI warnings and traffic rerouting. which is a bit of a bummer. hopefully they're get their act together to do that, but they haven't yet so this is what it is!

I just installed the WM5 emulator and TomTom 5 and it works peachy . I'm running a Pentium M 1.8 / 512MB Ram. I also have it running @ 640x480 to fit in the middle of my 800x600 screen res nicely. The refresh rate is the same as my normal proper TomTom, and the map calculations are way faster - I even raced them.
I tried to optimise the WM5 build as best I could by just uninstalling useless apps and deleting all useless files.
No-one has really mentioned the way they connected their GPS unit so....I had a spare Garmin GPS12, then I made up a serial data cable for it and bought a serial to USB adaptor, and wired in a power socket so it can be run off the car's power. Bear in mind, when setting up the emulator, you must map COM0 to the Com port of the GPS unit, then set TomTom to use Com1. I ran my multimeter across the unit and it uses 0.15A when running (65Ah battery ~ 19 Days), so I figure I can just leave it on when the car is off, so that there is no wait for the fix.
All in all, I am quite happy, I didn't really like destinator, but I have just read about I-Go, so I bought that too, and I will post about it here

I just downloaded bought i-go too.
I have spoken about connecting the GPS via com0 etc, but not about keeping on the battery. I had it that way too, until I switched to a USB SIRF3 mouse.
iGuidance is actually suprisingly good when you get used to it, though it's got me going in a loop a couple of times in east london!!
TomTom is the best for traffic based rerouting. I don't understand why the heck others haen't done it.
