Here it is running just after installation...This is on my other laptop, not the car laptop, running on the same simulator.
My crappy Serial > USB adaptor just fell apart, so I'm going to go get a replacement and test I-Go out.

COM-port problem solved - kind of...
The problem with the emulator not being able to restore form save state without turning off the serials. I've now uninstalled the 2.0 beta-release of the standalone emulator, and installed the 1.0 version. In this version it is not a problem, and the emulator starts and stops fine. Only problem is that this emulator is far slower, and it works slow even on my 1,6 GHz Centrinio-system....
In the v1.0 you are able to set som CPU-settings that I don't understand much about...maybe someone could help me out here?
And maybe the FAQ should be edited and posted as a new topic with this aditional information until a new release is put out.

I think I am using vers 1.0 - and it runs peachy on my Pentium M 1.8. What modifications have you made to your Windows install? Plus, don't forget the extra commands to help it run faster, such as /memsize 256 - assuming you have at least 512MB Ram.

setup
I've got 1GB RAM and memsize is on the emulator set to 256kb. Is there other settings to XP or emulator I can do different? While running tomtom 5.00 it uses 100% CPU of the Pentium M, and other applications runs VERY slow while running tomtom without setting it as low priority.

I would recommend you set tomtom to low priority. dont' bother with all the tweaks etc they won't make much diffrence. tomtom is a demanding app and the ppc emulator more so!

Tomtom run just fine on a decent PPC. Even on my mobile phone it runs fine.
Its the emulator thats so badly written, it take so much CPU power.
I run it on my workstation, a dual xeons at 3GHz each = 6GHz with 1GB of RAM and the emulator still runs slow, I was like, WTF? Its nowhere near the speed of a decent PPC with tomtom running

damn! that bad!
mind you, tomtom is choppier on the ppc than it is on mobiles. That's also tomtom's fault.
I have some new software, i-go that I'd like to try sometime, which is meant to be super well performing.

Yeah
From what I noticed, when installing using activesync, on my PPC tomtom only runs smooth if I choose install the apps on internal memory then leave the map on storage card. If I choose install everything on storage card thats when the navigation become a little jerky.
I have the tomtom mobile on sony ericsson P910i, it runs abit jerky but thats only because i think the phone doesnt have much processing power compared to the PPC.
As for running tomtom on emulation on a powerful machine, it abit strange because I have run it before on my old dual 1GHz P3 then tried it on the dual xeons and the speed difference wasnt much. So I dont know whats going on there. Unless I miss something.
The iGo is good, its quicker than tomtom under emulations. You mention about 7 digit postcode support for UK? I thought it wasnt supported?
I have posted some screen shot of iGo on emulation in here before dunno if you seen it already?

saw that, iGO looks quite nice.
I've seen tomotm running on a nokia n70 and it's very smooth. again, that's much less processing power than a ppc. I read somewhere the tomtom didn't optimise this properly fo the ppc. I'll try to find that article sometime.
on the iGo website, it says 7 digit postcode support.

Regarding COM port Access is Denied
The problem most users mention about restoring PPC state with assigned COM port is known Microsoft Device Emulator 2.0 Preview bug and it will be fixed on next release cycle. The only solution is to save state without port assigned and assign it only during running emulator throw preferencies. Everything else is working nice and much faster then with Emulator v1.0.

cool. it would be cool to write a simulator, rather then emulator, like palm have done, so that the code is actualyl executed on the x86 instruction set, rather than emulating a RISC processor.
it's nice to day dream!

Not true at all.
TomTom runs very smoothly on my WM5 PDA - smooth pan & zooming and updates certainly better than 1 sec from my bluetooth GPS.
anyway thx for the write-up, i'm going to try it.

1 problem now tho, I can't seem to get the voice working for directions? I'll hate to look at the screen while im driving! :S
It'll work sometimes.. rarely.. when i select a new location to go to..
The sound option is turned on btw!
Can someone shed some light please?

did you configure the voice in tomtom? can tomtom see any voices? it may be that you just need to stick the voices in the right directory
