What About TomTom on PALM Simulator
I tried to run TomTom on Pocket PC emulator it runs! But anyone trying to run it on Palm Simulator?
I have tried Palm T5 Simulator from http://pluggedin.palm.com/, because from www.palmos.com simulator have unsufficient Dynamic Heap Size.
But problem is that, when I mount card, starting process, TomTom was installing. But when I run it =, it said that NO TOMTOM SD CARD INSERTED error#0.
Maybe someone know How to solve that?

http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/atta...1&d=1164651964
By the way, on site mantioned in previos post, there is some emulators too (approx. 26 Mb). But I cant install them becouse, installator required some additional tool - PocketPC 5.0 SDk, and it reqiured some additional tools too.

One thing I want to see from this which will make me buy a carpc is for it to be able to use the internet from the mobile phone.
I don't want traffic updates only when i'm near a wireless spot becuase there are n't any on the motorway and that's when traffic updates are needed most. so if anyone knows of a way to use the mobile;'s GPRS for this that would be great
EDIT: forget it I'm being dumb i can just connect it via bluetooth and use it as a modem.
One thing that I can't do though is get the shortcut working. There's a limit to the number of characters so it's cut off at /memsize 25. Do they haev to be installed in their default directories?

use a batchfile isntead of a shortcut, or better yet, use an autohotkey script. check the link in my sig for a tomtom howto that contains autohotkey scripts.
also, if you use DMA and connect the ppc emulator to activesync, then you connect the carpc to the internet, then the pocketpc emulator connects to the net.
to get dma enabled, see the deice manager after you install the emulator.

Also what is the best code to embed TT into a skin, so that the program loads the same way as the shortcut? and is there a way to get rid of the popup that asks whether you want to save state when you exit?
Sama great job on the guide got it to work on the home PC, be interestesting to see what my carputer will do!

Use AutoHotkey to run TT as mentioned above.
Once you've got it set up to run (and autoclick no on the save state box) then just RUN; c:\.........\AutoHotKey.exe to start it embedded.
However, be warned that TT will not run full screen embedded. And if you choose 800x600 for example, you will lose the bottom of the TT screen. I found 640x480 on an 800x600 screen is OK if you don't mind the blank spaces bottom and right.

Shouldn't the comport error be gone now? It's not in the version I downloaded a week ago, so I'm gonna have to let my wife drive tomorrow with version one of the emulator. Not a big problem on a CoreDuo T2500 computer overclocked to a bit more than 2 gigs, though... Runs like **** from a ducks *** that one as well as long as the hardware's there!

damn i've read this whole thread and i'm at the last page. My questions is assuming that everything works fine around Tomtom 6 ppc emulated on pc, it would not be as good as map monkey or other gps we already have been using , the reason being tomtom emulator can't talk to our front ends , e.g to pause music while giving speech directions etc. how good would it work with front ends while being embedded an so on.
I'm just asking, no real issues.. since i got tomtom on my ppc i never use my car pc's gps ever anyways , for many reasons.. POI, latest maps etc..
Sama, keep up the good work

I use this on top of road runner. you're right, that it doesn't integrate with the FE, butI still preffer TomTom over any other GPS s/w so I don't mind! I'm used to turning the volume up/down/of on the tomtom screen so it's easy enough.
smoeone did integrate this into Centrafuse I think... can't remember where or who!

Sama, does the TT volume cause you a problem?
On mine, the directions voice is so quiet it makes it impossible to have anything else running at the same time.

there are two places to turn the volume up on the ppc. The first, is on the main screen, before you launch tomtom. You can find it at the top right. it's the speaker icon.
the second is once you get into tomtom, if you touch the bottom left corner, you should see a volume bar. I think you can also get to this throught the options.
I don't have a problem when I have both of those high.
Of course, you can always turn the volume of winamp (or whatever you use) down.

Great instructions Sama. Works perfectly and I'm no it expert.
Anyone know how to get the emulator to recognize a virtual com port. I'm using gpsgate which splits the port perfectly for RoadRunner but I can only see the actual port in the emulator which then doesn't work because gpsgate is connected to it.

it may be because the gps port is not enumerated in your device manager. try to see it there first. I'm not sure what you can do it if itsn't, but it may be worth trying another port splitting program to see if it sorts it.

thx's Sama. By device manager do you me in the emulator or my host pc? I don't have any problem running tomtom without RR but if I try to run both they conflict on port usage and both xport and gpsgate virtual ports aren't recognized by the emulator.
found this on the gpsgate forum but don't think tomtom supports a tcpip connection
" You can config the emulator to map its COM ports to COM ports on the desktop PC. In this case you should map the emulator COM port to one of the Virtual COM Ports you create as ouput on the Desktop GpsGate. However this does not work on some of the emulators, I think it is a MIcrosoft bug in some emulators.
The work around is to use TCP/IP to connect instead. Add a "TCP/IP Server" as Output on your Desktop GpsGate, and Open a "TCP/IP Client" as Input in your Pocket PC GpsGate. In some emulators you need to configure the emulator to use IP first.
A third option is to use sharing over ActiveSync if the emulator supports ActiveSync. GpsGate can share over ActiveSync.
"
