MapPoint v. Streets and Trips

I've done a quick search but didn't find anything that went into any detail.

From what I gather, MapPoint is more for organizations and Streets and Trips is more for the individual user.

I've gone to the Microsoft site for each but didn't find a comparison. Is there one?

Can anyone outline the differences between the two products?

I used Streets and Trips 2006 on our trip this weekend and liked it a LOT better than iGuidance as iGuidance is just too difficult to work with as far as finding streets, etc.

Anyone?

The biggest difference is that MapPoint has an SDK so it can be integrated nicely into a frontend like Road Runner while S&T can't.

MapPoint also has a more extensive POI database, I believe. Other than that, the maps are the same.

There's a few screen shots from Darque's install.

Thanks for the info guys.

I've got Streets and Trips 2006 already, looks like I'll play around with Map Point 2004 here at the office and see if I can tell any difference.

Forgive me for sounding contrary, but I regret buying streets and trips after using iguidance..

Iguidance has a much better 'on the road' style interface that makes it much easier to operate. Streets and trips has a crap interface that is a total ***** to use with a touch screen.

Am I missing something?

I guess the problem for me lies in that I have a hell of a hard time finding the roads I need in iGuidance.

For instance, for the Plano area in Dallas/Fort Worth, they list Plano 2 or 3 times. Depending on which street you are looking for, you have to select a different Plano, which is horse **** IMO. Makes it incredibly hard to input data while driving when you have to click so many times.

The other thing is the way iGuidance names the streets.

I can't find 75, or North Central Expressway, or whatever else you want to call it in iGuidance for the Dallas area. I've looked for about 6 different places on 75 and can never find the road name. If I wanted to find a restraunt, I had to go in for the actual name, and even then, I have to search for it under the KIND of food to find Pappadeaux (which is a rather large chain restraunt), I can't type in the name, nor could I type in the friggin highway because I can't find it in iGuidance!

Did you use the S&T skins as well? I hope you did, I couldn't imagine using S&T with no skin. S&T is far from perfect, but that is why we are looking forward to Map Point integration. The Streetdeck setup looks pretty nice.

ETA: sorry I didn't realize this was in the GPS forum and assumed we were all using RR.

I agree with Red about iGuidance's ****ty way of finding street names and such. One time I was looking for a street in Maryland (forgot the name). IG couldn't find it. I had to map it on Yahoo Maps and routed by Lat and Lon. Once I got there, IG was able to display the street name I was looking for just fine. It has the street in its database but couldn't find it. How ****ed up is that?

Anyway, I still prefer IG over S&T because of its more touchscreen friendly interface. And with iGMon, it's a clear winner for me.

ahh I just relaized this is in the GPS section and not in the RR section. It's an RR skin, well actually there are 2 of them

One is made by Mattkins99 and the other by Softec
http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/road-runner/61880-brushed-metal-streets-trips-2006-skin.html

I made the Softec skin in to BAV as well, the link is in that thread. What frontend do you use?

I just installed Roadnav and it's a simple neat nav program.
Having trouble dowloading the maps, but I'm sure the creator can help me out with that.

Nothing fancy; windows and linux:

Thanks for the link. After checking it out I really think this program has potential. I made a new thread about roadnav in hopes of generating more interest.
