Why does all the GPS software I've see look hideous?!?

I've tried S&T 2006 and iGuidance. I thought S&T was bad until I tried iGuidance. At least S&T had my neiborhood listed and had a fairly detailed map. iGuidance thought I was off road when I was in my driveway because my neiborhood (which is over 7 years old) isn't on the map. Not only that, but the look of the map is VERY empty and kind of old looking. S&T isn't perfect either. There is no 3D view and it seems too cluttered with so many buttons.

I'm trying to find a good navigation program that comes up with good routes, works with touchscreens and is more colorful. I'm not one for sacrificing looks for functionality, but I'd like the map images to look better.

Is there any PC GPS software that looks like the TomTom screen in this link?: http://www.tomtom.com/products/produ...210&Language=4

I've been disappointed by the way maps look on PC GPS software.. I wish they made them look like they do on the PPC variants (for instance.. OnCourse Navigator looks awesome, while Routis maps looks weird).

I personally hate how narrow in width the streets are on the map. Impossible to see.

Just looking at there website and their navi software looks awesome. If you look at the compatability section you'll sit that is its PC/laptop compatible. Someone should buy this software and try it out and see how it compares to iGuidance.

edit: I wonder if they have a SDK for the software?

it does look good. I would use it if they made it for the PC. I think in the requirements it says PC because you need to install it through ActiveSync or a memory card but need a PC to extract the appropriate files.

Someone should try to port this, I think I would use it. I find myself not liking S&T either...

Definitely looks like a nice looking piece of software. I believe that this is made by the same company that made Routis/iGuidance... so if they haven't ported OnCourse's layout into the PC version, I doubt they will =[

I only wish that CoPilot was capable of being embedded into front ends... it's one of the (if not the only) nicest looking PC navi software. I'd be willing to spend $200 for it (or $100 if you pick it up on eBay).

For those who are interested in oncourse...

Its called navigon 5 in europe, german company I believe.

I have it on my PPC and it is good. Some say its better than tomtom, hmm, yes in some way. The voice command is kinda cool though

Only the older version is PC compatible, version 5 only runs on PPC.

I got it running on windows by running the PPC emulator. For more details find sama's instruction on how to run tomtom for windows.

You need the PC/laptop just to manage the maps and install the apps.

The upgrade on their website is a full apps believe it or not, just need to find the maps and the code.

They come on 2 DVDs for europe/north america

Tomtom run just fine on my PC. This navigon run really slow, and that is already running on Dual XEONs @ 3GHz each

Never mind the tomtom title bar, I was just using the same setup as "sama".

I'm really impressed with this software. Only if it was available for PC.

If you click automotive link, you will see this software is very amazing. There are some very impresssive features. Some mojor car maker like, BMW & VW use this software.

That looks amazing!!! It's kinda funny though, they have the posted speed limit on Whitehurst FRWY being 35MPH... where in the hell do you go 35 on the freeway when there's no traffic....

lol and the quest for a better PC nav package continues. Have we tried getting petition/request started to email to a software company, i.e TomTom International. Do they know about the potential market for CarPCs?
