My BU353 sits on my dash presently. When I get down to the final install, it will be inside the dash under the plastic, sitting on the center console air vents. There's only one layer of plastic above the GPS, so I shouldn't have any problems getting a lock, nor any visible GPS for a thief to try to steal.

All GPS devices or antennas are enclosed in plastic... another layer won't hurt it.

Nice, I'll pick up the Holux, thanks. Continue to post though if anyone knows why I shouldn't.

Meh,
I picked a sirf II gps up off ebay for 12 bucks.
Streets 2006 modified with reshacker and everything works perfectly. Sits on the package tray underneath the upholstry.
Our aircraft (I'm in search and rescue, 35 million dollar helo) has a 100,000 dollar gps system in it and only picks up 7 satellites, mine picks up 10.

Go figure.

cheers

BJ

Just bought the Holux 213 for $85 Canadian! Should have it in a week. Now I need to figure out the software side. Anyone care to do a little spoonfeeding? I like Map Monkey but I heard mention of Destinator, why would I need 2 separate pieces of software? And does anyone know where I can get Canadian maps?

I may be out of step in mentioning this here, but I figured better to do so than not.

UT-41, $35 from geeks.com... I got mine yesterday, it works great.

I used it to modify streets to a more touch screen freindly interface. Ie: bigger buttons, rearranged buttons, etc.

It's about the best coverage I've found for eastern canada too.

Cheers

No, man.
You've been ragged on in a number of threads.
I'll say it again.

Check the FAQ Emporium. There happens the be a FAQ to the FAQs or something similar there. There are a number of links to highly informative posts about GPS and software. There is one thread that gives user reviews of different GPS software packages with their pros & cons.

Consider me a librarian and I'm pointing you to the card catalog...
