The instructions say if the light is solid, it's looking for satellites. And if it's blinking, it's locked on satellites. But it doesn't seem to be working this way, it blinks and doesn't blink whenever it wants, can anyone confirm the situation? I just have it on the bench now.

What is "it"? Which GPS receiver are you talking about?
My UT-41 blinks anytime that it's being polled by software.

Is your bench next to a window? The recievers don't work well without a clear view of the sky.

Yeah, but the starting bid is $0.99, so that's still " about US$20" total.
Setting a high shipping cost is a way for sellers to get around the eBay fee structure. In this case, it's still a fair price.

Canada?
A lot of the guidance apps are a bit thin on Canadian maps...v3.0 of iGuidance improved their coverage of the territories I think. I think NAVTEQ (the supplier of map data) upgraded their data.

I forgot to mention, it's about 2.5 feet from an entire wall of window that leads out to the patio. But I live in an apartment building so it has a great view horizontally to the sky, but not up because there's another balcony above mine.

They closed in the US$40 to US$50 range shipped. Not a bad price for a SiRFIII receiver.

Go figure.

Maybe the S&R helo has an old (Trimble?) system. Non-parallel, 3 channel and tracks a maximum of 10 satellites or so. But those things are extremely rugged. I would rather have the S&R helo 100 feet off on my EPIRB, than have the helo on the ground because of a flaky GPS receiver!
The bottom of an S&R helo is not something I would be keen to see, but I am sure it would be the most beautiful sight in the world should I be hoping for one.
You probably get people telling you this regularly but you folks do an important (but underrated) job.

Mine was $85 Canadian to my door. I also won an auction for one $65 Canadian to my door but had already paid for the other one.
