Price of GPS?

I searched for hours, I couldn't find it anywhere. What are the costs of setting it up? I figure I can buy the Garmin receiver for $150.

you can buy a Holix 20 channel usb gps receiver/antenna on ebay. I got it for $50 including shipping. I then bought Microsoft Autoroute (streets and trips for europe) for another $30. They work perfect together and i have yet to have any problems

Ditto for the Holux receiver on eBay... paid $40ish + shipping.

I have a USB BU353, which is one model that's sold in the mp3car.com store. I bought it for about $75.

I have yet to have a single problem with it.

Software is another matter. iGuidance is abourt $100. S&T2006 is about $60. MapPoint2006 is 'spensive unless you are or work with an MCSE or for a MS distributor (like me).
A lot of resellers offer hardware & software bundles.

I bought Streets and Trips 2006 - with the USB GPS Locator - for $105 last december from amazon.com . Like 3 weeks later, after christmas, i saw it on amazon for $69.99!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've been using S&T 2006 (even tho ppl on this site laugh at me) and it's been fine for what I need. People have suggested that I use iGuidance as software and am in the process of 'electronically acquiring' it - not downloading it! lol..

anyway, what i wanna say is, the GPS device that comes with the Streets and trips 2006 bundle works with MOST POPULAR software. This is a good package to start off with then you can expand - ie - use other software or upgrade, etc.

Will all this run in Road Runner? Basically I'll be using it just to get around the city I live in and pretty much nothing else. Except logging when I take it for service I guess. I wanted to use Map Monkey, that looks pretty cool, does it matter which receiver I get?

That one looks like it needs a power supply other than the USB cable. Am I right?

Or is this the one you mean?

Does the Holux work with iGuidance and/or the Microsoft products?

I want to use iGuidance(I think) but I am an MCSE an get all the MSDN w/ work, Map point, Streets, etc...so I might do that. Just do not want to spend for a gps antenna, change software an need another antenna

Im looking round for similar at the moment. Not found any good value for money gps software really. Had a look into destinator, but it doesnt look very good. And its damn hard to find the SDK from legal sources, let alone if you wanted to electronically aquire it! Having a look at Navgion 5 but still not found any kind of trial to see if i like it, although version 6 does look good

Yep, the one with just USB. The Holux 213 model (no PS/2 connector or anything). Works amazingly well.

Yes, it works with MS S&T (tested and works) and with Routis/iGuidance (also tested and works, iGuidance is what I use).. it's just a standard NMEA receiver.

So I guess all I need is a reason not to buy it. Is there anything at all I'm going to realize once I get it and regret? Anything at all this thing doesn't do that some other one might? No downsides?

I know for a fact that it doesn't have an external antenna connector, but you can always add that if you wish. However, it is a strong receiver, so I doubt you'll need to. Check around, some people have said great things about it. I'm just glad it works well and I have 0 issues with it.

Wow, that's something I didn't come across in my research. Why would I need an external antenna? I guess if you haven't had any problems with just the receiver itself picking up a satellite, it wouldn't matter much. Where do you have yours mounted?
