Yes, lots of the windows have been changed. But it is now very hard to browse using the keyboard, alsmost impossible unless you're playing around with the mouse too

WTH? You mean they removed the arrow key shortcuts for browsing the menus? That's seriously retarded. Why would you remove features from your app?
Between this and the non-qwerty keyboard and who knows what else, i'm not upgrading anytime soon. Did they even do usuability studies?

...and in my own setup I've always used my trusty old keyboard. Now, for the past few days I've been agonizing over what I'm going to do next. I may need to radically change how I use my setup.

Anyways, some nice changes, but from what I can see, it lacks a search function. That's all I want, a search. I'm on the road and I want Taco Bell, let me type in Taco Bell and have it route me to the closest one... easy. Don't make me have to drill down to destination/poi/food/mexican/scroll to T.
So what is being said is I can no long type in a name of a restaurant or store or an POI, and have to scroll.
I may just keep 2.1 installed. Who the hell thought of taking away that feature. Makes using POI's allmost to difficult to bother with. I guess I can allways tote along the yellow pages.

I don't think there has been any change in that particular feature (if I understand what you are asking) so sticking with 2.1 will not help you there, I don't think.

Version 3 is definitely on the right track, but as far as I can tell it will not yet be the ideal CarPC gps solution, because:
1) The windowed mode has top/bottom grey bars meant for Windows mouse click etc... useless if using TouchScreen. And the fullscreen mode leaves you without a resizable window, hence it may not be embedded in some frontends when in fs mode. (i.e., CentraFuse)
2) Overall buttons and windows are way too big for a Xenarc/Lilli. Furthermore, once embedded into a Frontend, the available screen area will be even less.
3) They added a bottom bar with some extra info (ETA, Speed, etc.) Nice, but it takes away more precious vertical space. They should have placed that on the left or right instead!

Justintime have you tried the Laptop/PC version instead of the UMPC/CarPC version, too? Do you think that is more usable?
In my setup (15" LCD) in the UMPC/CarPC version everything is _HUGE_. The Laptop/PC version is quite okay, perhaps just the very bottom line could have been a touch bigger so ETA, REM, DIST, etc is easier to read.

If both US & Euro version both use same format Navteq maps then why does there have to be two versions
Why not one version, and an option of the maps to buy with it ????

The Laptop version has overall slightly large buttons etc than 2.x, but still too small to make it touchscreen friendly. In particular, the OSK is still a bit too small.
I think the UMPC/CarPC version should have been maybe 40% larger than Laptop version, instead of what appears to be 80% larger...
