if theyve taken away keyboard input then we certianly are not thier target market
in fact were probably the reason they are removing it it doesnt make sense otherwise
they gave it to select ppl to beta then IGNORED the feedback. the customer service is something that definatly needs work
i think they are stringing us along saying "yea we made this with you in mind" until i hear from someone from inav otherwise this purchase will not be happening
its a shame

I tend to agree. Looks like they think "lets make em believe we are doing this for them and we will increase sales" while not REALLY doing anything for us. O.K., they made the menus bigger. That is helpfull, but it is sooooooo much less then they should have done "for us".
However, I did order the upgrade. I will try it out, and see if it really is an improvement and worth switching. If it is, then I will keep it and sell my 2.1.1. If not, then I will sell V3, and stick with 2.1.1 with the various other helpers apps.

.. who knows.. there might be an un-advertised registry entry or command-line switch (as we've seen them do in the past) which may enable keyboard access.. just hoping for the best..
Like I said, it's the upcoming UMPC market that's "forcing" them to make the interface more friendly for small touchscreens.. in which case it also "makes sense" that they removed the keyboard shortcuts, since UMPCs don't have keyboards - at least the ones I've seen so far.

They actually added a few keyboard shortcuts (A for Almanac, T for Trip Information, C for Current Location, and a few others I cannot recall quickly). The fact that we cannot navigate within menus like we used to in previous versions isn't something they removed on purpose, I don't think. They've redone the menus quite a bit and likely in the process they've overlooked losing this important feature. But, yes, it is important that user community will let them know this feature is VERY important.

FWIW, they are not ignoring us. They were just not very good at timeing the beta program... I have been in touch with iNav personnel, and can tell you they are definitely listening to what I have to say.
Believe me guys, I know very well what would make iGuidance the perfect CarPC gps app, and I am representing everyone's point of view when I send feedback to them. If they follow through and implement the few (yet critical) changes that I have suggested (V 3.1?) then we will have a killer GPS app in our hands, perfect for embedding into our frontends.

What are the chances if they are not even listening now, or at least, have poor "timing"?

What are the chances you would give them the benefit of the doubt? How about we give them a freaking chance?!

JIT, just like I said before, I will give them a chance when I get the SW, which I now have in my possession and will try and test tomorrow.
But understand that as a company, I can't see the advantage to rushing a new version to market, with the addition of the "carpc" options, and not implement ALL of the suggestions. While I applaud them for giving several of our members the SW to beta, what is the point if they are not gonna implement the suggestions from those betas. Plain and simple, that is poor practice on their part. Sure, they can put out 3.1 or 3.0.1 or something like that, but as it is I had to pay for this upgrade. Why should I have to keep paying for upgrades (yes, I know they have an upgrade policy, but there are time constraints)
In any event, asking for suggestions, then rushing to market with out implementing those suggestions is poor form at best, and at worst, indicates that they are ignoring what we think (as beta testers) and doing what THEY want.
I will let you know what I think first hand.
Michael

I think we all share the same mixed feelings. On one hand it is fabulous to see for the first time in the new version 3.0 an attempt to make iGuidance more suitable for CarPC's. On the other hand it is disappointing to see an important old feature suddenly gone.
Because of the inability to control all the functions of the laptop version with only a keyboard I'm for the time being staying with my old iG 2.1.3. I have no patience for a computer mouse in a mobile environment. But when ever I have time I do play with iG 3.0.
At the moment we have to admit we do not know which direction the product will go. I think to make some judgements we may need to wait till we see the next patch (perhaps 3.01). Then we will be able to either rejoice that indeed the developers are serious about the CarPC version, or we may then agree to the here earlier suggested idea that the new version is really meant to cater the UMPC market and it has very little to do with CarPC. Let's wait and see.

K, let me just say, that I installed it on the laptop while at work, and have been navigating the Menus. IT IS MUCH IMPROVED over the last version, for sure.
There are still issues, like the sendkeys issue, and also the inability to search for a particular POI is quite irking, but I think I might stay with this for now.
I hope that somehow IGMON can work with this version, so I can get automatic switching, but there truth is, if not, I will probably just leave it on Navigation.
Lets see if the developers address some of these issues we have mentioned.
Just wanted to mention that they left the "No Warning" parameter, and it embedded in RR the first time out, nothing to change.
