need to know asap location of onstar gps

friend is about to junk a 00' caddilac catera, told her id like to pull the gps receiver before it goes, can anyone point me in the right direction, i dont have much time! thanks

Check in the trunk area, on the right or left sides behind the carpeting. It could be in the dash as well.

If it's getting junked, pull down the roof and follow the wires

Even if you are able to find it, and get it out in one piece... I would be willing to bet that it is totally propritary in design. I doubt that you could just hook up a serial/usb connector to it to make it work. But who knows....

Hacking the GPS part of an OnStar is well documented and fairly easy to do. Of course throwing it in another vehicle and THEN hacking it might be loads tougher, because you then have the extra challenge of getting the onstar equipment powered, not to mention the antenna for it.

I'm using my Onstar as a GPS receiver now. I had most of the components I needed to build a serial interface already. Works great!
