"Hot" solution for GPS receiver?

Just a quick question from a noob about GPS receivers/antennas. I purchased a globalstat BU-353 and it died from the apparent heat on my dash. It is only 5 months old. After this incident, I just purchased an AYAY receiver from ebay. Quality looks great but it takes almost 5-9 minutes to acquire a position instead of the immediate constant lock that I got from the BU-353. My Via MB does not turn off the power to the GPS so I assumed the AYAY would keep a lock like my BU-353 did, but that is not the case. I bought the AYAY because of the reported durability against the heat. Now I am in the market for yet another GPS receiver due to the long time the AYAY takes to lock from start. Am I the only one that cannot find a good, long lasting GPS receiver/antenna? Any suggestions? Thanks

The BU-353 can operate upto 85C / 185F and has 1 year warranty. Doubtful, your car would get that hot, even on the dashboard. Wondering, why you didn't return it for replacement?

I have 2 of the Ayay sir units and they aquire a signal immediately. The first time they are connected to the PC it takes a few minutes but then it is very quick. My M2 keeps the usb live even with the PC off so it is always powered. How are you powering you PC?

I am powering the AyAy via the usb port on my via MB. I am using a m1atx power supply. The USB power stays on even when I power down my SUV. I would have expected it to keep a fix like my old Globalstat did. The reason I have not sent back my BU-353 is that I cant find my receipt. It got worse and worse as the temp got hotter this summer. It is to a point now that sometimes it works(if it is cold-like in the morning) and most of the time it does not work at all. It is not even recognized as being connected by the computer.

After messing with this thing further, I have found out that the power (5V) is low coming from the back USB sockets. The front one's are fine. MB problems maybe? Will continue with testing and let you guys know what is happening...
