xport3 causes sporadic system reboot
I have an MB899 Core Duo and have been getting random reboots, anywhere from 10 min. to an hour after startup. I've even tried unplugging every peripheral in the system, except a ps2 keyboard, and running no software. Just having the xport service enabled (mapping unused com2 to com9) will result in a system reset after a while. With the service disabled I can run RR with IGv3 and anything else forever without a problem.
Other than this, xport3 is working great functionally.
I tried pinning the affinity of the xport process to proc 0, in case it was a dual-core issue, but that didn't help.
Anyone have any ideas? If not, any other ideas for getting my bu-353 to survive hibernation?

Plenty
Normally I use a 220W DSATX, but I've also used a 350W desktop ATX PSU. Much more power than needed. Haven't heard of an overpowered rail. Why would it only show up on a software change (service enable)?

I guess it wouldn't be likely to be attached to the software, unless the software is causing an extra draw of power in it's fuctionality,, which isn't your case...
I mainly stated this as first suspect because this is a very common problem, exactly what your talking about with speratic reboots & such, & add to that a dual core, it was my first suspect...
it absolutley never does it without xport3 running? & you can do any other high load stuff like watching a dvd for an extended period without issue? if so, then maybe it's not power related...
power supplies have a 12v rail, a 5v rail & a 3.3v rail... only one needs to be overpowered to give the problems your discribing, usually the 12v rail is the first to overload...

Wow, that's gotta be frustrating. I only have hyperthreading, and no duals to test this out with right now. XPort is compiled for multiprocessor systems but drivers do have the most critical issues with this so I'm sure it's possible there's a problem in it. One thing to try would be reducing the number of virtual ports to 1 or 2 for a while. Another option would be http://franson.com/gpsgate/

Reducing virtual ports
I deleted 6 of the 7 virtual ports from the registry. Was that the right way to do it?

Just use the control window. The driver needs to be stopped first, then change the ports, and enable it again. Otherwise, you'll have to reboot before it will see the changes you've made.

Seems to be graphics driver issue
I had only been using 1 virtual port via the control panel all along. However, I noticed that the screen would get a little squirrelly right before reboot, thinking it's related to the graphics drivers. So I updated with the latest graphics drivers, and have enjoyed a couple days of up-time since.

Does anybody have a link or mirror for downloading xport3 and compass ?
I get an error attempting to access Curiousity's site:
http://curioustech.home.insightbb.com/xport.html
Thanks!

Yeah, I spoke too soon... rebooted on me again last night. I'm going to try GPS Gate and see how that goes.
