Microsoft GPS reciever?

Im looking at buying a GPS reciever and after shopping round in the UK it appears I can buy streets&trips (autoroute 2006) with a GPS reciever for the same price as just a GPS aerial.

I dont mind buying just an aerial but has anyone used the microsoft aerial and got any thoughts on it? I have searched before the search police arrive, but have you tried searching for GPS on this forum ?

Cheers guys...

I've read that some have had some good luck with it, but then others say it's a little weak. I guess if it sucks, sell it on ebay and get something else.

Does seem a plan. Its more a case that it just seems very good value for money. Im not a huge fan of the software but it is useful and was thinking I could always sell the software on ebay and keep the reciever. Be interested to see if anyone else has noticed its weak

If you get S&T 2006 you should be okay as the GPS that ships with that is based off the newer SiRFstarIII chipset. The older versions of S&T came with a SiRFstarIIe based GPS.

I'm assuming that Autoroute 2006 will come with the same GPS as S&T, but when it comes to Microsoft who knows what they'll do?

Buy it from a store that sells many of them. Hopefully they no longer have the older stock S&T 06 w/GPS which included iGPS-360 by Pharos. That one was based on the older SiRFstarII chipset. I have heard from at least two users who purchased S&T o6 w/GPS very recently and they were pleasantly surprised to find the new iGPS-500 included. This one is based on the new SiRFstarIII chipset. There is no way to tell what you are buying unless you open the package. When you do open the package, there is a sticker on the back of the GPS unit. The sticker says either iGPS-360 or iGPS-500.

geeky_hawkes - iGPS-360 is not too bad, but why not get the better unit for the same money if you can. Some users gave feedback that the iGPS-360 was a bit less sensitive than other receivers in its class, but it's usable and some people have happily lived with it for years.

gt__1 - if it came with S&T 05 it didn't have SiRFstarIII chipset.

The receiver that came with S&T 2006 is NOT SirfIII, I have one, it bites, constantly loses signal, there are times when it thinks I am driving 50 m to south of where I am, so on and so on.
