Ipaq Pocket PC GPS?

Hey everyone,

I am new to GPS technology. Can anyone here show me the correct way to convert IPaq Pocket PC model H3900 serie into a GPS system.

Other words:

1. What type of GPS reciever do I need to buy to be compatible with IPaq Pocket PC.

2. What GPS software do I need to get for Pocket PC?

3. How do I update my GPS system? Do I go to the manufacture website to buy a new GPS software to update my map? Can I use Google map to update my website?

1. if you have a compactflash slot you could use a compactflash gps, if you have bluetooth, you could use a bluetooth gps. You will want to make sure, however, that you have a flash memory slot available for map data.

e.g. if you ONLY have a compactflash slot (and no SD), then you would want to go with a bluetooth gps so that you can fit your map data on a compactflash card. If you have both cf and sd slots, then you can go with either bluetooth or compactflash gps, since you can insert an sd card with the map data if you go with the cf gps.

2. iGuidance, Tomtom, Destinator, or Navigon.. I'm sure there are others as well that I can't recall at the moment.

3. I'm not sure what you mean.. the GPS map data will be as current as the software's maps.

Check out gpspassion.com .. should be a helpful resource for what you want to do.

1. What type of GPS reciever do I need to buy to be compatible with IPaq Pocket PC.
The 3955 model of PPC is old. It has only one SD slot & no Bluetooth. You can get a CF expansion adapter for it and use a CF card GPS reciever. You will need the SD slot for a memory card to hold your maps.

2. What GPS software do I need to get for Pocket PC?
I would recommend Mapopolis or iGuidance

3. How do I update my GPS system? Do I go to the manufacture website to buy a new GPS software to update my map? Can I use Google map to update my website?
Buy new software. You get new maps with it.

OK sorry folks. I put down the wrong Pocket PC model. Mine Ipaq Pocket PC model is H3975.

It has bluetooth capability and has a SD card slot.

As for Bluetooth technology, do you guys mean that I have to buy a GPS reciever with bluetooth technology?

How much SD memory do I need to store GPS map?

Oh yeah, a 3975.. I had one of those at one point. I have a compactflash expansion jacket that will work with it if you're interested. I no longer have that iPaq, so I no longer need it. $10

Looks just like this

Not sure what you mean.. basically you just take the iPaq and slide it into the expansion jacket.. surely that's not what you mean though..
