iguidance map updates

I dont know if anybody posted or made a thread about this. I tried searching here and on google and havent found much relevant info.

I have IG 3.0 and i noticed on several occasions the maps being out of date. Like for instance i wanted it to take me to a taco bell...well the taco bell it took me to come to find out had been burned down for the past 2 years. So needless to say from regular driving and taco bell runs. It seems to be out of date. (I'm in the US by the way)

Is there any way to find out how up to date my maps are and if they're not that up to date, how to go about getting new up to date maps.

Thanks guys

I think with iGuidance you have to wait for a new release and hope that the area you live in has been updated. Ive noticed this too. My subdivision is 16 years old and on the map just fine, but the one jsut behind my area where i live, which is 5 years old at best, just doesnt even exist in the map data at all. when i drive thru that area, it looks like im offroading thru a forest.

Hi darksideofjae,

iGuidance map data is updated annually with the release of new product version. Your version (3.x) is the current version. Expect the next update approximately a year from now (or a bit earlier).

If you are interested, you may read http://pocketgpsworld.com/navteq.php . It's an excellent three-page-long article describing the process of making navigable maps. It explains why the Taco Bell in your neighbourhood is still on the map, even though it burned down 2 years ago.

We really need to move toward a centralized map system common to all (most) GPS programs, having a peer-review system for POIs and roads. Taco Bell not actually there? Send that info to the server, updates everyone's map.

I wish there was a way let's say for example, like what GFidrich3 said. In a area near his place of residence is a new development, but the map sees it as a wooded area still. I wish there was a way that if he drives through it. The GPS can record the new information and if possible submit it to the map people. I dont know, it's just a little irritating to be driving down the road and all of a sudden, please drive to the nearest road, when you've been on the same road for miles.

and i agree with you rsd212 if there was one standardized map, it would make things alot easier
