At first glance one problem i am seeing is that there is no settings for fullscreen/resolution/size of the GPS window, and Roadrunner can't resize the window, this is probably going to cause some problems with embedding.

Subject: Question regarding nav 6

Hi There

I just purchased the new version 6 of PC Navigator, and i am trying to get this software integrated into my Car PC’s frontend software, it’s called RoadRunner. Now my problem is this : I can’t figure out where to define how large the window of navigator 6 should be (ex.800x600 on a 1024x768 screen) since I need some other stuff on the top at the same time, and I can also not resize it at all……can you tell me how to do this ?

This is possible with both Iguidance/Destinator/Autoroute and so on.

There are quite a lot of ppl in the CarPC community who would find this application usefull if certain issues are resolved, one of those being this one. The Frontend is discussed in great detail here : http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/road-runner/

Regards

Oh dear.

I had a quick chat to them before purchasing and they mentioned that, but I didn't know how much of a problem it was going to be. They also mentioned that they are going to design an Active x control for the software, and that will come in an update. Does that help us in any way?

I'm sure it won't take someone long to hack it to stop it going fullscreen..

The ActiveX might open up for us to send API calls to the application to do this and all sorts of interesting stuff for frontend integration. Let's hope this gets resolved, i have no idea how to get around an application wanting to go fullscreen with no borders or anything.

Glad to see a nice price piece of software that works on pc's, hopefully the embedding into a window wil get fixed, but even if notI may just buy this one anyway, at the price, it deserves to be bought.

Anyone uk running it, I would like some addresses checked or screen shots of it shownig certain areas, that way I can see how 'new' the maps are, as I know most the destinator / tom tom faults.......

I am actually considering a dual monitor setup with a monitor dedicated to GPS, since i already have an extra 8 inch lilliput lying around.....just need to fabricate some bracket for the dash.

Ok, so i have given up on directions support to solve the issues here and now, they seem to understand the problem with different issues, and are going to fix them, but no timeline on those. Here is the stuff i asked support and got answers on :

Q: Is there no keyboard shortcuts defined for different functions….if so where
A: none

Q: Is there no API out for version 6 yet ?
A: not yet, but soon

Q: Is it possible to start GPS automatically, I really don’t get why I have to go into the menus to start it every time I start the program
A: It starts automatically when you start navigation (this i don't understand, mine does not start automatically if i just choose navigate to an address)

Q: Will it be possible to get the program to run without fullscreen, and to set coordinates for where it should place itself on the screen ?
A: It will be, but not yet

Q: How do I disable voice prompts ?
A: Turn volume down? (1.st response from them) :-) I then explained why i wan't this : Voice prompts……the reason I would like to disable it is that I am running a frontend where I listen to music and such, this runs behind PC Navigator (since I can’t resize the window) and i would like either the option of being able to set the volume level when voice prompts are being spoken, or disabling voice prompts all together.(The thing about this is, that possibly when the API is done, we can catch the "say" function and lower wave output for the duration.) The reply from directions upon this is :
A:OK, I see your point, I will pass it to our developers

All in all good answers, hopefully it won't be long before we start to see these new features. For now i am trying with 2 8inch monitors, just got my new nvidia quadro 285 nvs with dualview/2vga or 2dvi output, am gonne post some stuff when i have free time to get it installed and tested.
