So true. I live in the metro Detroit area. IG3 ALWAYS wants me to take roads instead of highways. I too have it set to fastest and use highways.
We recently went to West Virgina for white water rafting and IG3 took me country roads the ENTIRE way. It seems it went out of its way to AVOID major roads.
When ever I want to go to an appointment I always use Yahoo Maps to get an idea of how to get there, roughly what major roads it is by and start off going my own way. IG always tells me to turn around. I live about three miles north of I-94 and IG always tries to get me to drive 10 miles east to get on the express way instead of just heading south a few miles.
10 miles @ 45mph is sure as heck slower than 11 miles @ 70mph.
I've used Streets and Trips, liked it, and use Map Point (same as S&T but scriptable, what Street Deck uses).
Overall, have an idea of where you're going and what YOU think is the best route and when you get lost, follow its advice because sometimes humans know better than computers.
